I dropped one of my smaller craft punches and it skittered under the
(very small) dresser in the craftroom, so I had to try and fish it
out with a ruler... while I was at it, the following appeared from the
space:
- approximately seven glitter balls
- one shiny plastic bell cage
- all three big wooly mousies (rats) that the girls adore
- two fluffy pompoms
- three golfballs
- two sproingy springs
- one lightweight plastic ball with a jinglebell in it
- a couple of superballs
- and a little plastic thingy that somebody stole from meowmie's desk
All that was missing was the partridge in a pear tree :P
No wonder their toy supply has been dwindling - it was all under
there!

Did you fish out the craft punch? ;-)

We moved the recliner last week and found nine tennis balls. Kayla is just
overwhelmed now trying to watch them all at once.
Jake finds that amusing.

Our lot tend to specialize. Ishmael used to hide under the bath
in our old flat - there was an opening in the front, the rest of
it blocked off by panelling, so you couldn't get at the underside.
He got seriously ill once and wouldn't come - I had to break the
panelling apart with a hammer to get him to the vet. Whereupon
I found the reason why we kept losing bathplugs.
Zeke's favourite was the plectrums I used on my cumbuses (see my
page at http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/Music/Cumbus/cumbus.html ,
they're a Turkish fretless lute-banjo - the cats in the pictures
are Ishmael, Muriel and Splodge). I used to leave the plectrums
interlaced through the strings at the top. Every so often there'd
be a distinctive BOING!!!, a streak of black fur racing out of the
room, and the plectrum would turn up a few months later crumpled
up and full of little toothmarks.
The weirdest animals-collecting-things story I've ever come across
is also on my website:
http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/Oddities/uranium-rats.html
Those little jingly balls are a menace. They'll usually disappear
in a few days and never be seen again until a time when it's crucial
you need a full night's sleep, whereupon there'll be a full-on
football match with one at 3am.

I love that first picture. It looks like the cat was deliberately
placed there to show scale. :)
Which kitty is that, btw?

LOL! A heroic rescue of the plectrum from the clutches of the boingy
monster!
That was an interesting page. I've never even heard of the cumbus before,
although I've listened to some Turkish music.

That was Ishmael, who died on Monday. Neither he nor Muriel was going
to move just because I wanted to use the bed as a photographic backdrop,
so I decided to use them as rulers.
The two of them were deadly enemies for most of their lives - Ishmael
was in Marion's flat first, I brought Muriel with me when I moved in,
and they were always fighting over who got the favoured armchair or
cushion. Then a couple of years ago they made up, and would even curl
up together. It was very sweet. Muriel (aged about 16) had a breast
tumour removed a few weeks ago but she's bouncing around like a six-
month-old kitten.

I am afraid to move the couch and see what is under it. I know when I was
first acquired by Persia she was fascinated by the bowl of wrapped Brachs
Butterscotch candies. She'd nip them out of the bowl, bat them all around.
One day the element in my oven went out. When the maintenance man pulled
the stove away from the wall to unplug it before replacing the element...
tons of butterscotch candies! Apparently they scoot better on linoleum so
she took them to the kitchen. Then they got batted between the stove and
the cabinet.

When I lived in Finavon castle in Scotland (only the upper half where the
highlands wind could blow right in through the stone walls, so don't be TOO
envious) the entry passage was rather warped hardwood.
I used to hear what sounded like a bowling alley at night. Finally, I caught
my resident cat, Bikkie, chasing a walnut up and down the length of the
hall. That explained why the big bowlful of assorted nuts I had in the
receiving room had to be refilled so often! I should've known my guests
weren't eating them like popcorn.
Never did find most of them...

Perhaps Bikkie was supplying the local squirrels. MLB

Doubt it - she was a dedicated wildlife-hater. Used to sit in the window and
chatter in rage when she'd spot a deer in the yard. WANNA GO GET! WANNA KILL
BIG MOUSIE!

Somebody did. You have to wonder what they thought as the assorted nuts
turned up in all the nooks and corners.
I think Charlie had a little better when he was stationed in Edinburgh, he
lived upstairs from a shortbread factory.

My worse one was finding the Furballs playing with a mousie I didn't
recognise...then realising it was DaNip mousie Dave brought Fugazi (RB).
Quick calculation I think he got that in 1992 (I remember him getting it and
it was when he worked at Camberwell so it had to be 92-93) this was when the
Furballs were about a year old...so that mousie was 12 years old! And I
hadn't seen it for ages, long before 1999 when Fuagzi crossed the Bridge
Ummm....I have been known to do housework! Honest!
