If you've seen the biographical film about Joan Crawford and her kids,
called Mommy Dearest, you'll remember the scene where Joan tries to force
young Christina to eat rare steak. Christina refuses and Joan makes her sit
at the table for a long time, then puts the meat away in the fridge to serve
again for breakfast.
Finally as the meat is starting to spoil Joan relents and gives her daughter
something else to eat.
I thought of this today when I saw that the contents of a can of wet food I
put out for the cats last night was still in the bowl, and instead of
cleaning the bowl out and feeding something else, I just left it there.
The food in question has been a favorite of the clowder here for a long
time, and suddenly they simply will not touch it.

I woke up to the same thing; and I bought the Fancy Feast as a treat for
them. It's not a do-over.

Heh. Usually this happens when I buy at least a dozen cans of their
favorite kind. Then they sniff, look up at me, and say "Oh. We don't
like this kind anymore."

I've not seen the movie, but did read the book so many years ago. It
sounded to me like Miss Crawford had a serious case of manic
depressive. Not to mention just being a cantankerous person. What's
sad, is that the people we think "have it made" have sometimes no
sense of personal accomplishment. So, they rant and rage. Poor folk
like me might have a better sense of worth.

There is a possibility that batches of the same kind of food are different
in smell and taste. MLB

Did you by any chance get it on sale? I swear mine can read
the price tags, and refuse to eat any one-time favorite if I
didn't pay top dollar for it!

No, this food came from the same store and was the same price it has been
for the last couple of years at least. They used to practically fight over
the stuff, and they just left it alone until it spoiled this time. I've got
two more cans of it in the cupboard, I will take it back and exchange for
something else.

That is risky! If you do that, I bet, they do want absolutely no other
food than this one.
