Purrs needed

Rusty needs some purrs again. Tonight when I brushed his teeth, I
noticed he has bleeding gums. I will call TED tomorrow to get an appt.
for him. He probably will need dental cleaning. I hate to put him under
for that at his age of 12. I feel bad that I haven't been brushing his
teeth as often as I should. More frequent brushings probably would have
prevented bleeding gums. Sigh!  I am a bad Meowmie.

Purrs that the cleaning, if needed, can be done with Rusty in a conscious
state.

No, you aren't.  You're just a human being.  Besides, my daughter brushes
after every meal, and her gums bleed almost every time she brushes them.
Some people, and probably some cats, just have a propensity for that sort of
thing.

Purrs are on the way.

It's probably not necessary for me to ask this, but I will anyway: does
she also floss? I ask because about 12 years ago, I had this problem - my
gums bled every time I brushed my teeth. I had to have the deep cleaning
thing where they go under your gums. But after that - no bleeding. The
dentist did say, though, that if I didn't floss regularly, I'd be back
in a few years to get the same treatment. I have to confess that I'm not
as disciplined about flossing as I should be - I don't do it every day.
But I do it as often as I remember to! And I brush my teeth twice a day.
In 12 years, I haven't had bleeding gums since.

No, you're not. I don't think 12 is a very advanced age. Many purrs for
Rusty's appointment.

YOU ARE NOT A BAD MEOWMIE! Purrs for Rusty. He may just need a bit of
antibiotics.

Purrs for Rusty and please don't feel bad.  There is no way at all that I
would even attempt to brush either of my cat's teeth.  Kitty would slash
me - she still has most of her teeth aged 20-21, although she has lost her
little incisors - and Boyfie would be traumatized if I tried to handle him
as intimately as that.  He would faint clean away with fright.  Our
relationship depends on what "he" will allow, so when he gets up into my lap
to settle down and purr his very tiny purr when I am sitting very quietly
it's a special moment.
I really love him.  He hasn't a clue how to scratch or bite me,  it would
never enter his head.

You are not a bad Meowmie. Soncek adopted me he was 3 months old and
from the very beginning I was trying to brush his teeth, but there was
no way at all he would let me do it.
Lots of purrs and best wishes for Rusty and hugs for you, Winnie,
Polonca and Soncek
