It must be horrible not to know where he is at a time like this.
But as others have said, he very well might have gone off on
purpose, because he knows he's dying. Which might not be much
comfort, although at least it might have been his choice to do
that.
Purrs for an easy passing for Ishmael. He was a beautiful boy!

We found him. He'd burrowed his way underneath our bed platform, which
is full of boxes of LPs, and was hiding behind the end of the alphabet
(Webern, Weill, Wagner and Zimmermann). He gave his position away when
he started meowing last night - he was desperately thirsty, and moving
around was very painful. I didn't try to move him, just gave him some
shirts to rest on and a bowl of water. We took him to the vet this
morning (in a basket with its top off and in a taxi, the buses round here
can be bumpy and we didn't want to jolt him). He's buried in the garden
beside his sons Mingus and Zeke. They liked crocuses (to eat) so that's
what we planted on their graves - Ishmael was wild about snow (running
around in it kicking up flurries) so we'll put snowdrops over him.
He was lucky to live that long. When we first moved here, from a top
floor city flat, his favourite place outdoors was in the middle of the
road in hot weather, lying on his back on the warm tarmac sunning his
tummy. It's a quiet street but not that quiet, I don't know how he
managed not to get run over.
He must have started getting ill about a year ago. Until then, he could
hear our footsteps a block away and would run down the street to meet us,
following us back home and rolling over on his back every few yards to
have his tummy tickled (this was usually followed when we got home by him
climbing up Marion's front, throwing both arms round her neck and boofing
her on the chin with his head). Then he started staying inside, and over
the last few months he progressively lost interest in food - from when he
was a kitten he used to love yogurt, which meant that whenever we had some
he'd usually end up walking backwards round the kitchen with a pot stuck
on his head (his sister got more of it than he did, from cleaning him up
afterwards). From about a month ago he lost interest in the stuff, and it
was clear then he didn't have long to go.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's good that you found Ishmael though.
It's harder when you're not there when the time comes and even worse
when you aren't 100% certain how they died. Purrs for you and your
family (both humans and the furry kind).
Dewi.
Your Muriel looks so much like my Tinky (now RB).

Oh my deepest sympathies. I'm so glad you found him though and he was not
alone at the end. He sounds like such a wonderful little soul. ((((Hugs)))

I'm so sorry to hear about Ishmael. Purrs for a safe journey to the

What a tough, ornery old fellow! I would have loved him, and I'm so sorry to
hear of the loss of such a character. I think there must have been a lot of
love under all that stubbornness though, because it seems like he wanted to
spare his two-legs pain even as he went through it himself. I'm glad you
found Ishmael and that you were there for him, that he didn't leave Midgard
without his loved ones with him. He sounds like a fellow who would go over
the Bridge bouncing and anoouncing "Yo! I'm here!"
He'll say it far louder someday when you arrive to join him in retirement,
and there will be a lot of happiness on the first day of forever.
Blessed be,
Baha

I am so sorry for your loss and glad that his plan to die alone was
foiled. You got to say goodby and give him a last drink of cool water.
Next time he greets you there will ba snow falling on flowers.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I know you will miss him. But glad you were
able to get some closure and he is now with his sons at the Rainbow Bridge.
The snowdrops sound lovely.
So do the crocuses. I have part of my lawn torn up and really must plant
some more while the grass is filling in.

That's so sad! But I'm glad that you were able to find him. You were

I'm so sorry that Ishmael had to leave you for now, but also glad that you
were there for him as he began his journey for his next life. Purrs and
hugs from all of us to Ishmael's friends and family. I wish we'd known him,
he sounds like a remarkable little guy.
