I have been trying to get my gang to eat canned food for quite a while with no
success whatsoever. A couple of weeks ago I spotted the new Fancy Feast Elegant
Gourment variety and decided to give it a try. I don't know that was such a
good idea. For the past week as soon as I get up I have four little furballs
screaming at me incessantly until I give them thier new treat. The poor little
things are on the verge of death due to starvation! LOL. The main problem,
aside from the price, is they only like the Yellow Fin Tuna, I don't know if I
should be giving it to them every day or not. I give them each a 1/2 can once
a day in addition to their dry food.

Smokey and Tyche eat a 1/2 can each of Friskies, Fancy Feast or Science
Diet Sliced Dinner. They will only eat the sliced/marinated/shredded
kinds in gravy--they have no use for pate.
Kumani won't eat wet food at all. Nox will eat it sometimes, but
mostly she prefers to wait until everyone else is done eating before
she will dine, and there is never any left over. If I put hers down
later, Tyche is right there in it, and then it's no good for Nox any
more.
I feed Smoeky and Tyche wet food every day, mostly because I don't want
SMokey getting urinary tract troubles from no wet food.

When Persia could still eat Fancy Feast I limited it to 1 can (those cans
are tiny!) every Sunday. She was forever trying to trick me into giving it
to her on other days. I held my ground, mainly because of the price. Now
she's strictly on prescription food after her bladder surgery a couple of
years back. She doesn't really like the wet version of the Hill's x/d. The
vet said it's fine for her to only eat the dry, at least for now. Thank
goodness she likes *that* because there really isn't an alternative food for
her.

Hi Randy, Me too!!! After tasting the yellowfin tuna there was no
going back for my girls, Xena and Callisto. They look at me like I'm
trying to poison them if I give them something else. I only give them
each 1/4 can in the morning and sometimes in the evening as a treat.
They have the Nutro weight management dry food out all the time for
their regular food. They have both gotten rather "fluffy", Xena is 12
lbs and Callisto is 14.5!

LOL! They are unlikely to die of starvation if they are getting half a can
plus dry food per day. They obviously like the new wet food and I can't
think of a reason why they shouldn't have Yellow Fin Tuna flavour every
day - it will have everything they need in it.
You do realise they will get fed up with YFT flavour soon and you will need
to get them something else? <grin>

Rusty had no problem switching from dry to canned food on TED's advice
because of his history of urinary blockages. Over the years we have
gone through many different prescription food and there was never any
problem. He eats whatever was put on his plate, even prescription food
that I heard other cats didn't like or bland food that TED didn't think
he would eat. He doesn't get tired of the same food either. The
changes of food were from his changing health conditions. The only
times he won't eat were when he lost his appetite while on antibiotics.
He is very easy going. At 8-9 lbs he pretty much can eat all he wants
except I limit his intake to the recommended one can a day since
prescription food is pricey. Even so, a case of food doesn't even last
a month.

That's the truth! They will get tired of it on the day after you buy
them a whole case of it!

At least they let you wake up naturally. Our monsters sometimes wake us
up so we can feed them. :)

Smokey and Tippy do wake us up. Tippy is the usual culprit. Dennis has
Meniere's disease in his right ear and if he is laying on his left side he
can't hear the alarm clock, so if he doesn't shut it off right away Tippy will
paw at him until he wakes up. Of course that is if he doesn't get him up 30
mins or so early. I am hearing impaired in both ears and I never hear his
clock. Smokey usually wakes us up early on weekends when we don't have to get
up early by walking up us and giving us head butts.

The Fabulous Furballs always wake me about 5am by standing on me and patting
me until I move, give them some serious skitchies and then we all go back to
sleep....

Rita simply adores that new stuff. Naturally. It's the most expensive
cat food on the shelf. She gets one can a day, plus a little dry food.
And she hates chicken. I have a box of chicken Fancy Feast to give to
my friend's cats, who will eat anything that's not nailed down. *sigh*
