Will be November 23 as an inpatient at a different hospital.  My family are
not coming up good to help me - too busy at work and with their young
children.

Thank goodness for my friend, June.  She phoned me tonight, she will feed
and water my chickens every day and feed the cats for as long as is
necessary and will come for weeks to put 56lb sacks of chicken food into my
barrels where I store it so I don't have to lift them myself.
It's not as if she doesn't have enough to do, herself.   She has lots of
dogs, a useless husband who seems unable to stir his own teacup and her
father is in a home and she visits him daily.
I think she might be a saint.

I think that's our Thanksgiving day in the states!

We have been friends for more than 20 years through our mutual interest in
whippets.  We spent a lot of time together in the 80's/90's and we have kept
in touch ever since.
She has spent time with horses, and handled the stallions while mating, for
almost everyone in this district.
My slightly fierce cockerels are not likely to be a problem to her.

There is an old saying: "If you want something done, ask a busy person."

I guess that is true -- they are the doers.   Purrs for your "wildlife" to
be healthy and safe while you are laid up.   MLB

I worked with a woman who was not only the full time database administrator
at the office, she ran a farm.  She raised horses, cattle, chickens and at
one time even a couple of emus.  She sewed most of her own (including lined
suit jackets and skirts) and her childrens clothing.  When she added onto
the house she did the plumbing and wiring herself (she did hire some guys to
do the framing and the sheetrock).  She cooked from scratch every day.  She
lives out in the country in another county so she drove about 80 miles to
and from work.  And she managed a rental house on some adjoining property so
she got to deal with renters, too.  I've NO idea how she did it all, but she
did.  And if anyone she knew needed help she was there to offer it, whatever
it may be... meals, pet care, yard work, whatever.  She was and still is a
dynamo.

She sounds like a saint.  She also sounds like just what you need right now.

I'm glad the date is set and it will be over with fairly soon.  I'm also
glad you can rest easy, knowing your critters will be well cared for.

Thanks, Sam, I am hoping to be out of hospital the next day, not sure if
that's realistic though and if so, I certainly won't be going home. I'll
have to be looked after at my aunt's again for a while :-(
I got terribly homesick when I was there after my 2005 operation.  I missed
the cats and the chickens and my whole life at home really.  I asked the
welfare officer from my workplace to drive me home after 10 days or so, and
he did.

I was not used to getting a cup of cocoa just before bed at 10.30, 10.30??
and having a TV programme switched off immediately because it contained the
F word.  It was something I particularly wanted to watch about alcoholics,
which comes into my work.

Auntie is wonderful for looking after me and I know I should be grateful.  I
am.
I'd just like to get home a.s.a.p. after hospital.  Like 3 days maximum.

Dave's the same. When he was on the ward he could be heard protesting very
loudly that he had to be in bed by 8.00! In the end, they placed him where he
couldn't cause too much disturbance and let him have his DVD player with
headphones so even through he was in bed, he could watch films or listen to
sounds

On the rehab unit, they kept insisting he had to be in bed by 9.00 but after
having words, it's now he has to be on the unit at 9.00. The four old ladies
who dominate the sitting room and have total control of what will be watched
go to bed at 8.30 through, which completely suits Dave as he's often alone in
there with access to the telly until 1-2.00 am

It feels like it's been a long time waiting, but thank goodness it's
soon now.  Coincidentally, November 23rd will be on American
Thanksgiving this year.  We'll toast to your health.

So glad you have a reliable carer for your chickens and cats. It's
always my biggest worry when I have to go to hospital, though I can
usually rely on family to take care of the cats. Your friend does sound
saintly. Many purrs will be coming for you on the 13th and onward.

Wow... I know you hoped it would be after the holidays.  Sorry to hear it
will be right in the middle.  And of course, purrs for the best and
speediest outcome!

Nothing like living on hold is there?  Really sorry they are messing with

Well, I think it'll be very beneficial, so is worth looking forward
to. :)  I don't think it would be nearly as troublesome as your last
surgery.

Yes, you are quite right, Tak, it *will* be beneficial in the long run. So
speaks someone who hasn't endured abdominal surgery, I suspect ;-)

I hope not.  If I thought that, I would be heading for the river a mile away
to throw myself in it.

All I can say is "What the f**k is going on?!" I know it happens but
that ain't much of a consolation to you

They should at least tell you when it will happen

Dunz and Sarsi send you calming purrs 'cos you really helped with
Meowmie getting upset and the advice you gave real helped Paw to sort
some things out

I expect I will get to know soon.  My surgeon has opted to operate on a
cancer patient that day, and it will not leave time for me.  I can live with
that.  No doubt a few people were cancelled so that I could be operated on
for my cancer last year as quickly as I was.

Thank you, Dunz and Sarsi for the calming purrs, I certainly needed them.
I'm always happy to share any expertise I have with any member of the group
that needs it, you were very welcome, Lesley and Dave.

Oh no! What a shame! Purrs that they reschedule in January, like you
