I know there is an invisible-to-humans sign on the house that cats are
welcome here, but  we don't have any more room!!!!  Some of the ones we have
are stressed now, due to the overpopulation in the house.
Yesterday, out in the backyard there was a sweet medium-haired black kitty.
We (being the suckers we are) gave her 2 dishes of food, which she wolfed
down, then napped on our picnic table -at least after she was done chasing
falling leaves, she napped!  DH had a meeting to go to, and I had errands to
run, and she was gone when we got back.
Later, however, there she was sitting underneath the bird feeders watching
some small rodent (mouse? vole? shrew?  I couldn't see it) scurry about
collecting fallen seeds and rustling the leaves on the ground.  I stepped
out there and she came to me.  I scooped her up and, with a bit of help from
DH, got her into a carrier.  Of she went to the shelter - to be dropped off,
but to be entered into the system as a 'found' cat, and to be scanned for a
microchip.  No chip
So now she is in our bathroom, with food (damn, she eats as much as
Tennessee!!!), water and a litterbox.  She has darted out twice when I've
entered, but only dashed a couple of feet and was re-captured each time and
placed back in the bathroom.  DH thinks she's preggers (and she's definitely
a she) as she's quite round (and her nipples are rather large & bumpy).  I'm
hoping it's just the amount of food she's taken in over the last 24 hours -
and the fact that she didn't poop or pee at all last night, finally did this
morning, but DH says she's still sorta round.  Calling the vet tomorrow to
see if they can check her for spay scar, and have her tested for FELV/FIV.
Also made up some fliers and notes to post up and/or pass around on people's
doors.
We've been calling her Snowflake, because she's as soft as one (never mind
that she's black).  She's about 8-12 months old and her teeth are very clean
(cleaner than mine ), and not bigger than Betty, but her puffiness makes her
look the size of Weeble!  So much fluff on her backside that it took three
of us at the shelter to make sure that she is a she!

Oh dear. You definitely have an invisible sign! Purrs that you can find
a nice home for Miss Snowflake.

The agenda of your particular mothership seems to be planetary
invasion.  I hope you find Miss Snowflake's home.  She was lucky to
find you.

I do hope Snowflake in not pregnant... unless you want kittens of
course ;)

I suspect that cats attract more cats. Whether its due to safety in
numbers, cat pheromones or cat telepathy.  Once you adopt a certain
number of cats, which I suspect to be about 5, more cats will get
attracted to you. That's what I noticed with my own mob. After I
reached 5 cats, the rest just showed up at the house and me, being a
sucker as well, decided to feed them and take them in.

The first time I like maths.
The equation as you state would go:
5 cats = more cats
or 5 cats = 5 cats+ <g>

I like that way of thinking.

Why, you ask. Well, Nancy, there's the answer right there. You used too
many exclamation points. ;o) (See post 'The Smiley Intervention)

Purrs that you can find Snowflake's home, and it's not yours.

#1)  She is now called Rosie, short for Rosebud.  Her name kept morphing
until one "fit".  When we first spotted her outside, and gave her food, DH
was calling her Cloud.  That didn't seem right.  Snowflake didn't work
either.  Tried Buttercup - BC for short, but DH called her ButtCrack
instead, so that was nixed.  Rosie seems to fit (although she does seem to
respond to Squeaker, since she is a squeaky little thing, but then again,
she does seem to respond to *anything*).

#2)  Since Weebs & Ping go in for their yearly tomorrow (Thursday), that is
when she will go in.  They suggested not feeding her Wednesday night, just
in case they find no spay scar, that way they can keep her and do the
surgery that day.

<gross warning>

#3)  We were gone all day yesterday (see message posted "VERY Long Day" - to
be coming later), and when we returned and checked on all the critters (the
D-thing had both poo'd and pee'd in the kitchen, but we expected that -
there's laws here against tied animals for extended periods, and our yard is
not fenced, so in the kitchen he stays when we're not home - and he doesn't
mind that one bit).  Rosie had decided to hold PukeFest '06 during our
absence (or maybe it was a statement in regards to politics in general?).
*4* piles of puke in the bathroom, and one puddle of bile (otherwise known
as a dry heave).  Two were pretty much digested kibble, with small wads of
black hair in them.  Two were mushy kibble, (as if one had spilled water in
the kibble-dish), with only a few bits of hair in them.  We had double the
feed since we knew we were going to be gone 12+ hours, so maybe she just
overate?  Or it could have been the hair.  I couldn't see any worms (YES!)
in any of the upchuckage.  Her stomach is *much* smaller now, so it is
doubtful that she is preggers, unless in the early stage.  TED's office
recommended spaying her even if she *is* pregnant - sad, but true, but it
will help to end pet overpopulation (but I *wanna* play wif da kittenses,
Mommy!!!!!). Yesterday evening, she was acting "off", hiding in a back
corner of the bathroom, behind the shower stall, next to the litterbox.
Today she is more herself, squeaking out a greeting every time someone
enters the bathroom, and coming over for luvvins, huggins and whatever else
she can get.  She hasn't tried to dart out since the second attempt - and
one night (Monday?) DH didn't latch the bathroom door all the way, and when
I got up for my middle-of-the-night-pee-run, she was still in there, napping
in the kitty bed right outside the shower door!

She's such a sweetie with us, I hope she's friendly with the other cats, or
else, if we don't find her true home, we will have to find an adoptive
family for  her.

LOL - "PukeFest 06", that's a good one. Roxy joins those festivities
from time to time!

Rosie had not been spayed, but is now!  And my wallet is lighter for it :D

They said she was about 1 year old, and had kittens sometime in the past,
probably got preggers during her very first heat - poor baby -  but was not
preggers now, and it looked like the kittens had been weaned (she was not
still giving milk).  She is now back in *her* bathroom, first thing she did
was run to the litterbox and pee!  I might run an ad in the paper, but our
local paper does not have free lost & found listings.  She is in the system
at the local shelter, so that is a start.  My gut is that she was dumped
after her kittens were weaned, instead of spayed.  El-cheap-o bastards!  I
have a few choice words for these types, plus a foot or two to insert in
their @$$.  I doubt we will find her former "owners" - so DH is checking
with potential adopters at work!  Rosie gets her stitches out in 2 weeks

Anyway, I had mentioned that Weebs & Ping's checkups were yesterday, and
they are fine - fit & healthy!  Weebs is up to just over 11 lbs, and Ping is
down to just over 9 (it was the other way last time, with Weebs being just
over 9 and Ping being just over 11!).  They took their de-wormer meds &
shots like the little men they are - made me sooooo proud, plus Ping had a
fecal so that he can get into the Pet Partners - he only squirmed a bit when
he got his nether regions invaded (I know we could have taken a stool
sample, but with Rosie locked in the bathroom, we didn't have any other room
to isolate him in order to get the poo, that no other cat would have
demanded in with!).  Ping has only now to be evaluated and I need to pass a
written "test" (but you can use the book to check your answers - how hard
can that be?).

Thank you so much for taking such good care of Rosie. We will continue
to purr and send best wishes for her to find a great onetruehome. I'm
glad Weebs and Ping are ok and we will purr for Ping to get into Pet
Partners,

Got a call today from someone who was missing a black cat - medium haired.
They had gone to the shelter and got our info from the clerks, and called
us.  We met at a nearby church parking lot so they could see her, but they
said it wasn't her :(

She is free to leave the bathroom now if she wants, but the door is only
partially opened so she can escape to there if she needs.  She did creep out
and meet Lizzie - and *surprise* of the century - there was no
growling/hissing or anything, just nose-sniffing!

If we don't find her former home, DH has a place lined up for her with the
sister of the girl that took Missy (they keep saying they want Barney, but
he's not up for adoption), though she won't be able to take her until this
time next year!
