We had such a nice evening last night, distributing goodies to the
neighbor kiddies.  Such lovely children!  We hear all the time about
spoiled brats and various delinquents, and we see quite a few of them,
but  we had nothing but absolutely charming, delightful children last
night.   Stinky came to the door to welcome the first few-- then when
he realized the door was going to keep ringing, he took up a position
by the door to be ready for the next visit!

We had nothing but little charmers last night, also. The cats are not
interested in children but Bear stayed right by the door, a goodwill
ambassador to his wagging tailtip. Even though he is large and was
fairly eager to make contact, almost none of the kids were put off by
him.

We gave each of the cats and both of the d*gs a Halloween treat,
although none of them bothered with a costume.

Would Stinky be a black Halloween colored cat?  Whatever color he is, I'm
sure the children enjoyed seeing him come to greet them.

We also handed out treats last night.  Our trick-or-treaters ranged from
pre-schoolers to teen-agers.  Our experience was the same as yours.  Every
one was polite and a pleasure to see.  We also found this true when we lived
in Texas.

Once the knocks began on the door, Rosie quietly retired to one of her
private spots.  Cinder, our black cat, stayed on a chair, out of view of the
door.  Maybe she would have been more social if it had been warmer, but the
temperature was slightly below freezing and a cold draft came in every time
the door opened.

When we were in Georgia last summer, we met a couple from England who were
living with a cat and a dog on their sailboat.  I asked the woman what she
found that surprised her here in the U.S.  She said that the children,
especially the teen-agers were so polite.

Kayla helped my answer the door.  Stuck her nose out for each child just
enough for a little scare for those that aren't crazy about dogs.   And to
get pets from those that were.

I live in an apartment complex where, to avoid children roaming through
the halls, they have residents donate candy to the building managers,
who hand it out in the lobby--a one-stop trick or treat for the entire
building.  So, after donating two bags of gumballs, I was done with
trick-or-treat.  I'm somewhat sorry to miss out on seeing all the kids'
costumes, but on the other hand, I'm free to go to the Samhain ritual
without having to rip off the neighborhood trick-or-treaters by leaving
my home unoccupied.

Soncek hides when the doorbell rings. Stinky is very courageous!
Best wishes,
Polonca and Soncek
