We have a darling little black indoor cat named Sophie, but even if she
were an outdoor cat we'd keep her inside tonight. It's Halloween, and
many animal shelters in the U.S. and Canada are refusing to adopt out
black cats until it's over. The Toronto Humane Society is one of them,
and this item in today's Toronto Star is a cautionary word for all of
us with black cats. There are many ailurophobic sickos out there, and
we must keep this in mind this evening.

Not just black cats - *any* cats. As we've discussed before, it's not
the Satanic ritualists we should worry about (do Satanic rituals even
use black cats??), it's the groups of older kids who are out for trouble,
especially later in the evening. And, ailurophobe or not, some people
just need a victim to vent their hostility and cruelty on.
Smudge doesn't know this yet, as she is still having breakfast - and
she will be none too pleased when she finds out - but she is not going
anywhere today or tonight.

Little Elfie-Welfie and Panguitch are also in for a big disappointment
today despite the fact that they are gray and organge, respectively.
They got to take a SUPERVISED outdoor excursion with daddy this
morning. That's all the outdoor time they get today. My housing
development is right next to the local high school and kids loiter in
my neighborhood all the time despite the police reports I file. It's
definitely not worth the risk to let my furbabies out tonight.
Here's hoping that kitties everywhere stay safe tonight!
