Things are going quite well at work, but there's too much to tell you
about everything. So here are some more snippets from my work.
**********
I got a packet from the state of California and I've been approved to
take the RVT exam. YAY!!! I have yet to schedule it, but i have until
April to take it.
So I'm trying to think about how long it will take me to review
everything so i can be ready. Hmmmmm.......
*********
Today was busy in the morning but the computer schedule showed it was
going to be slow in the afternoon, so I came home during lunch.....
(sounds of door opening and closing)
Imp: Huh? Wassat? Oh NO!!! RUN!!!!!!! (hides under bed)
Mayhem: Hmm? *yawn* Oh, it's Meowmie. Hi Meowmie.....hey why are
you picking me up? What's that thing there? HEY IT"S THE CAT
CARRIER!!! LEGGO!!!! PUTMEDOWN!!! *slam* HEY LEMME OUT!!!!
Mischief: wha'ts going on? What's all the commotion abou.....hey, why
are you picking me up? Oh no NO!!! PUT ME DOWN!!! NOT THE BOX!!!
ANYTHING BUT THE BOX!!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
(door opens and shuts)
Imp: I told you guys to run, didn't I? *pause* Uh, hello? Where is
everybody? Ahhhh!!! I'm all alone!! Run and hide!!!
Sooooo.......Mischief and Mayhem came back to work with me, both of
them complaining the WHOLE way. I got my previous clinic to fax me
their records but the afternoon kinda picked up. But Dr. C managed to
find time to check them out at the end of the day. All my coworkers
ooooo'd and ahhhh'd over my babies. Mischief kept rubbing up against
the cage door for attention, but then Rosie one of the hospital cats
came by and Mischief hissed at her. My coworker A even helped me
clip their claws and took their temperature which they handled quite
well.
Both of them are quite healthy. I was surprised Dr. C didn't say
anything about Mischief's weight. She does look like she's swallowed a
grapefruit. But he DID check out her teeth, and though he was
impressed that they weren't that bad considering she hasn't ever had a
dental cleaning, there was one tooth, one of her lower molars that had
some severe gingivitis. No signs of trauma or fracturing, but it would
be a good tooth to x-ray and check out.
Hmmmmm, well maybe in a bit I can bring her in and personally clean her
teeth, and maybe in a few more months, I'll extract the tooth
myself(I'll be able to extract teeth once i'm licensed). It's not
entirely urgent, but it is something to think about, so a dental for
Mischief should definitely occur sometime soon.
Mayhem does have gingivitis again, which miffs me since i cleaned her
teeth back in March, but it's not that bad. Dr. C recommended some
rinses or chew treets. "She's been pretty good with me looking at her
mouth" Uh, yeah, but that's at the clinic. If I tried doing all of
that at home she would get QUITE upset. It's something to think about
I guess.
But both were healthy enough to get vaccinated, but unfortnately it was
too late to give them baths. Oh well, they lucked out of that, this
time.
Mischief is now back to doing her duty of getting between me and the
computer screen, Mayhem is begging for attention again. Imp is nowhere
to be seen, probabaly cause he's afraid if he comes out that I'll catch
him and put him in the BOX!!!!
Silly boy.......
He's not due for a checkup until next month. muhahahahaha!!!!

A woman who does 'amateur' cat rescue (meaning she isn't really part of
a rescue, but has a big house and big heart) had brought one of the
cats in today to be spayed. Her name is Tess and she's a cute calico
with white boots. This owner has brought in a lot of cats in the past,
and I clearly remember when she brought this one in for an exam last
week saying to me and Dr. C "this is the last one, I promise!"
Yeah, right.
About an hour before Tess was to be picked up after her surgery, she
brings in ANOTHER kitten. How this woman can afford to rescue yet
another cat after paying for a spay is beyond me. "They were gonna
euthanize her." Yeah yeah same story as usual. I love strays too, but
I have my limits. I can't afford to go around rescuing kitten after
kitten. That's how i ended up with three cats.
But then I walked into the isolation room and saw the kitten.
She was an orange and white tabby, very adorable in spite of hte fact
she had goopy eyes and was suffering from an upper respiratory
infection. Awwwww, poor thing.
But then i saw what had gotten this client right in the heart. This
kitten was a POLY........as in polydactyl. AWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! I have a
soft spot for extra tooties.
She had FIVE toes on each of her back feet. Best way I can describe
the front paws is to compare them to the human hand. Picture your four
fingers as the usual four toes. On the left front paw, this kitten had
a large fifth toe that stuck out like a thumb, and a SIXTH tiny toe
tucked in between the 'thumb' and first toe.
And if THAT wasn't enough, on the right front paw, she had the four
usual toes, the fifth 'thumb' toe and TWO more tiny toes on either side
of the 'thumb'
So all together, she had FIVE toes on both her back feet, SIX toes on
one front paw and SEVEN on the other paw.
When the kitten first saw me, she let out a high pitched 'MEW!" and
started KNEADING those tiny poly paws. AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I
was so overcome with how ADORABLY CUTE this kitten was I had to
restrain myself from shrieking.
Dr. C didn't seem affected at all, (well duh he's a guy) but at one
point A and I both where like "Eeeeeeeeeeek!" from how cute this kitten
was.
Now I understood. If I had been in this woman's position and saw that
this kitten was gonna be euthed i probably would have adopted her too,
just to save her.
Poor thing had an upper respiratory infection and goopy eyes, but
thankfully tested negative on the FELV/FIV test. We gave her a shot of
antibiotics and sent her home with more Antibiotics and some eye
medication.
I wish I had my camera. All those TOES!!!!!! I was so floored by how
cute this kitten was.
Man...........

Wednesday was known as the Day of the Psycho Cats. Two cats went
ballistic to the point that the tech restraining let go for their own
safety and we had a loose cat. One cat managed to sneak into the
bathroom. My coworker had on the thick leather gloves and a big
blanket. Meanwhile I'm trying to push the cat out from behind the
toilet by using the plunger.
At one point the cat turned around and attacked the plunger and bit it.
Then he let go and started spitting from the bad taste.
Serves him right for biting a rubber plunger. hehehehe
We did manage to eventually get him, but he did nail me HARD with one
paw. I have four claw puncture wounds on my the back of my left hand.
Serves me right for laughing at him. Sheesh!
