My 94-year-old mother appears to be on the verge of crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I know she will be greeted by many dogs she has loved, as well as a goat. I am especially glad that my sister's daughter picked this time to visit them. (My mother and sister are in Alaska, and I am in California) I know my mother is especially looking forward to being reunited with her last dog, a toy poodle named Cricket. Much of it was hard, but she came through with shining colors. She set me a tough example to follow. The first year of my life we lived in a basement. My Dad was building a house, and that was as far as he had gotten. She had to cook on a wood stove, haul water up and down stairs, and battle the extreme temperatures of California's San Joaquin Valley - scorching hot in the summer, cold enough to freeze diapers on the line in the winter. On the good side, your mom has lived a very long, and from some of the things you've told us, a full, adventurous life. Someone who perhaps won't have to die regretting what she's missed!
