As Baha has written at least once on the kitty board, she lives in the
area of Buffalo, NY, USA.

Thursday some time it started snowing. By some time Friday The
Thirteenth, 2006, the city had 23 inches of wet snow. The wet snow
stuck to trees, and pulled trees down. This also pulled down  power
lines. Power was out (in Buffalo and surrounding counties) for about
350,000 or more people. I found out about this snow storm about 3 PM
on Friday. I live about 100 miles east of Buffalo. Knowing nothing
about the storm, I was doing some shopping on a nice partly cloudy 50
degree day when I find out Buffalo is burried.

I have tried to reach Baha by telephone. It rings, and no answer.
Typical of lines down. The ringing noise you hear is generated at the
phone company.

And, there is no further information at this point. They could be
home. At work. In a ditch in the car. Or at a public shelter. They
could this, that, the other, or anyone's guess.

Does anyone else have more information? I'm seriously considering
driving there on Monday to see if there is anything I can do to help.
In the meantime, prayers, purrs, and best wishes are all requested.
The last storm of such intensity, in NYS, took about a week to start
getting power back on. Two weeks in some areas.

I do have a printer, though it is poor quality and quite cantankerous.
If I do go to Buffalo on Monday or some other time, I'll try to get my
old klunk to print.  Anyone who wishes to send purrs, best wishes,
etc. Post them to the board (here) and I'll print them out and deliver
them by hand.

Format note. Since I'm out Outlook Express, top posted best wishes are
easier to print.

Yes, I'll let you know when I find out anything. The news guys say
power should be up by Wednesday. I know that a house can get really
cold in a couple days.

There's something to be said for wood-burning fireplaces and
the old fashioned coal-burning furnaces that you fed by
shovelling!  (Even if you have gas heat, or your kitchen
range burns gas, even oven thermostats are almost always
electric, these days.)

Purrs and best wishes for Baha and her family.

Kudos to your for your concern and your efforts.

A hint - If you copy the messages you want to print and paste them to a
blank page in a word processing program, such as Word or Word Perfect, you
can print several short messages on the same page, thus conserving paper and
ink, and requiring less storage space if they want to keep the messages.
BTW, if you do this, you can also cut out the parts that don't need to be
passed on, like this paragraph.  ;-)

Yes, that's a very good idea. But, I figure that just print em off
will get the idea across.

I hope everything is ok there! Last report I heard was there were
still approx. 250,000 w/o power, and that the power company had
brought in at least 100 crews from all over the rest of the state to
help in get the power back on.

We wish them good luck, and let us know if we can do anything!

I'll admit I have no clue where Bridgeport, NY is.

One friend of mine suggested to call the police in that area. Or the
Red Cross. See if I can figure what's the biggest need. The big need
may very well be to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles (in
other words, stay home). It's gonna be rough, cause I think the phone
lines came down with the power lines.

I'm going to try postal mail, if I don't make it into Buffalo. Just on
the odd chance that they get the US Snail moving some how or other.
But that will be delayed by several days, also.

Purrs that she and Louie weren't overly inconvenienced by the storm.
I hope they haven't lost power for a week!

Purrs on the way from the Northwest to the Northeast that Baha and
family, both furred and bare, weather the storm and get services
restored soonest.

Hi everyone,
First of all, many thanks to Chris for his concern, and for coming
out to look after us Monday. He brought me some printouts of your
respones, and you all are the next but not the least to thank, for all
your expressions of concern for me and Louie and the babies.
The cats have been better sports than we've been and have been our
little comforter sand cheerleaders. They've snugggled and purred and
kneaded and played and distracted us from our excile from modern
conveneiences these five days.
We're sore from cleaning up and hungry after geing delayed our
paychecks for five days. Our money before today (monday) went to feed
the cats. Friends lent us their showers, their couches for football
games (for much of the city was powered up in only hours) and their
groceries. Chris, thang you for the groceries too; and my friends
Dennis and Nancy who helped look after us.
Half an oak tree in our back yard just splintered off and pulled
down the lines that power our block. It will be a few days beore we
have our juice again. God only knows when we'll have our phone. Louie
just bought me a cell phone today after threatinging or organize a sit
in to get his check. I still havn't been paid and I don't know when
I'll be back to work. I checked at the law firm and ran into he boss,
Dan, checking on the power (still off). This wonderful man who hardly
knows me handed me a hundred dollar bill and just said pay him back
when I got paid. I'm not even a full employee yet. Dan not only
deserves thanks, he deserves a medal.
So we're recovering, cleaning the damage, and getting back to
living. It has been a blessing in its odd ways - our neighbors have
been come real neighbros and we are reminded that we must take care of
one another. And I might have been with Louie and the cats in the dark
but we've got each other. and there's a lot of love going on. I will
gladly trade my check and all the inconveniences for all the good
things that we are reminded of. A lot of tree and power damage but no
structural damage, and we're here, we're alive and okay.
Thanks to everyone who's sent purrs prayers, and their good
thoughts to us and our poor burried Buffalo, because they've worked.
the sun is out. Our ISP is down so I'll be away for awhile, but I'll
be back when the power's back.

Blessed be
Baha
Many thanks again
