Día de Los Muertos

October 31st, "The Day of the Dead" or "Día de Los Muerto" is fast
approaching.

Usually, here in RPCA, we'd honour the cats and other beloved pets that have
gone to Raibow Bridge (or are Missing in Action) before us by listing their
names, and their house (ie, the last name of their family). If we don't know
their 'house' then they can have 'House of Bast'. After everyone added the
name sof their beloved onto the list, we'd honour the completed list in
whatever fashion we as individuals would deem appropriat on October 31st.
Lighting candles and saying prayers would be fairly common, but its up to
you.

My list would be:

Blackie,  House of Chapman
Snoopy, House of Chapman
Brainy (budgie), House of Chapman-Nagy
Vomit (budgie), House of Chapman-Nagy-Noon
"Drooling Cat", House of Bast
Bowie (dog), House of Martiska

Sadly, however, there are also some Catslaves this year that we could honour
as well. The list would include:

Eve
Dave Y
Eric
Renee

Speical thoughts to them all.

Yowie, I think Victor would have to chime in but I believe technically Dia
de Los Muertos is Nov 2nd. All Saints Day is Nov 1st where the custom is to
honor the departed saints and the next day is honoring departed ancestors
and family. Or have I completely lost my mind?

Eve's magnolia we planted in her memory bloomed for the very first time on
Nov 1. It was a special day.

Nope, that would be September 16. May 5 commemorates the battle of
Puebla, where the mexican army beat the french.
Day of the dead is November 2, with November 1 being All Saints Day, and
in Mexico, it is traditionally reserved for children.

All Saints Day is reserved for children? As in deceased children, or how?

Ohhh, I didn't know they had a special mass for children.

I was under the impression it was exactly what it's called. A day of
honoring saints.

I'm intriqued, I'll have to google it more :)  Thanks for telling me Victor.

And yes, bad Grace... *snickers*

November 1, All Saints Day, and November 2, All Souls Day are marked
throughout Mexico by a plethora of intriguing customs that vary widely
according to the ethnic roots of each region. Common to all, however, are
colorful adornments and lively reunions at family burial plots, the
preparation of special foods, offerings laid out for the departed on
commemorative altars and religious rites that are likely to include noisy
fireworks.

In most localities November 1 is set aside for remembrance of deceased
infants and children, often referred to as angelitos (little angels). Those
who have died as adults are honored November 2.

I’ll remember that. My Eric’s birthday is Oct 7th (just past; he
would have been 27) and since his birthday is close to Halloween, I
decorate his grave with decorated pumpkins and fall colored flowers
for his birthday.  While he wasn’t a child when he died, I always
make sure there’s a statuette of an angel on his grave. In the last
3 years I’ve only had to replace one. I want a statuette of an
angel that is either sleeping or kneeling and looking down to watch
over him.

I just love that angel, Gracecat. Thank you. The first one. I have
an angel up there now; it’s been up there for at least the last
year. I bought two of them because I figured I’d have to replace it
sooner than now, but it’s still looking well. The first angel I put
on his grave was a sleeping child angel. Laying down, with his head
resting on his arms, wings fully open. I just loved that one. It
was only about 8” long, but he slept on the grave stone. It was
gone after the first year. I’ve never found one like that again.

Hugs to you too girlie.

Julie, I love this one!  I might get it to put in my garden rather
than the cemetary though. I don't understand the cemetary where
Eric is buried sometimes. They're very strict about "decorations"
and I guess they feel they have to set a policy or the whole place
would be cluttered with "things".  I wish they'd understand those
"things" help those left behind.

Thanks, both of you. *hugs*

Actually, it's neither one. It celebrates the Mexican victory over the
French at the Battle of Puebla. Mexico's Independence Day is September 16.

Lord Amber the Magician

I"d love to read RPCC but its another very active forum. Since I can't keep
up with RPCA, I have no idea how I"d keep up with RPCA and RPCC.  However,
since there is a large crossover, I suspect that the cultures of both groups
are fairly similar. Except one is written in an accent :-)

We stumbled into the Jellicle Ball while tracking down
that anonymous poster, and we were welcomed with
open arms, and our house of loved ones was mounted
in their Walk of Remembrance.  It is a very loving
group.  The Ball is still going on, by the way,
defying all parameters of time & space in the
doing.

P.S. Here is our list from recent to most distant loss from the
     House of Abraham

Zildjian Galadriel
Caitlin
Missy
Sarah
Meeka
Sasha

Good morning, RPCA. It's been years since I posted here, but I've been
back lurking for several months. Now it's time to participate a bit, and
this thread called to me as we've just recently (between 8/30 and 9/21)
had to have one master and one d*g sent to the RB.

I do hope I can remember everyone; I've always had a lot of pets.
