Yesterday, Harry had a live bird in the house*, I figured someone else
caught it and Harry just usurped the spoils. But Nooooooo! Today he
brought in a chipmunk, not releaseable, then just now a vole, also now
with the choir invisible. Now I know why when the catdoor is opened he
runs into the back woods. (* didn't seem hurt past some blood on his
back, released him to a tree branch).
Harry is showing more spunk now that his teeth are better. I had a
love-in with Bosco in my lap, really roughing him up with scritches and
ear noises and it was just grand for him, he'd twist and turn in my lap
if I stopped to get me to do it again. I tried that with Harry, and he
kept biting me, not drawing blood or real bad but more than a nip, to
show he didn't want that abuse. He was too shy before to show such
reaction.
Meanwhile Tao's doing his thing still. Saturday I was bringing
groceries in, I set a bag on the counter while I went for more. In the
seconds it took to return, Tao had inspected the inside of the bag and
found a porterhouse, which he pulled out of the bag and was working on
opening the wrapping when I found him. On a even less happy note, he
snuck out after dinner, and I couldn't find him. Walking around with a
powerful torch, down to the road and through the woods, no answer to my
calls and no sign of him. I sat up for 3 hours, cursing him out until I
heard a attle at the catdoor (closed to keep the others in at night, as
it has been since Willie left), sure enough Tao was back and I let him
in with a lecture "Where have you been? Don't you care that we were
all worried about you?". Tao will find more ways to assert himself, I'm
sure.
With the migration to Florida coming up, I took Bosco down to the
village in the car for acclimation, he was very suave about it, no vocal
complaints or trying anything bad (like getting on the drivers floor),
curled up in my lap and rode along. 18 hours will be a bigger test.
And that's the story of the refugees in the Pocono woods. Norm

"With the choir invisible" - I've never heard that phrase before. Do you
mean the vole has kicked the bucket, bought the farm, shuffled off this
mortal coil? :)

Glad to hear it! Sounds like he's starting to enjoy life.
