The King is Dead ...........

Bev - 22 Oct 2004 00:15 GMT It was a terrible fight - the screams were enough to curdle your blood. When I got to the battle scene Clyde and Deo were nose to nose. Clyde wasn't peeing with fright or fleeing. He was there for the long haul - this was his patch and be damned if he was going give way. Around the pair were tufts of Deo hair. Clyde had a mouthful of Deo hair that he was trying to spit out between his bouts of ferocious howling and growling. I stood and watched, I wasn't needed. Deo went backwards - Clyde went forward, jaw to jaw, eyeball to eyeball - then Deo turned and fled. Clyde didn't bother to chase him. He stood there and practically beat his chest. FSP and Bonnie were watching from the safety of the window sill, you could feel their admiration. I have to admit Clyde looked enormous, with his tail expanded to twice the size and every hair on his body fluffed up. I picked him up, he was still growling. The king is dead - long live the king.

Of course, being the neighborhood bully hasn't endeared him to anyone, and hopefully he'll learn to avoid FSP, B&C's yard.

You may recall when he met the man who sent him to his post out west... the guy folded his orders up into a tiny ball then gave a wierd salute. And a few minutes later he was standing at the window saying "The King is dead; long live the king" before blowing his brains out. Totally whacked. John kept doing that funny salute when I said something nutso. He cracks me up. We still can't figure out why Costner put that scene in the movie.

I remember when that movie came out, I met my brother for lunch-- I sat down across from him in the restaurant, and just said one word: "Waterworld." He cracked up, and we both giggled like idiots for awhile.;)
Speaking of Costner, I watched "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves" laat week, and that is one of the most schizo experiences I've ever had watching a movie. Costner's flat-voiced, Valley Boy, mullet-headed Robin Hood is pure agony, while Alan Rickman's insane Sheriff of Nottingham is pure joy. That movie was when I fell in love with Rickman. ;)
"Recruit the beasts from the North." "You mean . . . Celts!??"
"Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and CALL OFF CHRISTMAS!"
"You. My room. 10:30 tonight. You. 10:45 -- and bring a friend."
"DO YOU MIND, Locksley? We've just been married!."

It worked okay in 'Dances with Wolves' when he was allegedly reading from a diary. But come on, put some life into it when you're suppose to be acting!

Tom Hanks is the Jimmy Stewart of our time, folks. Totally adaptable to any role whatsoever.

But he was always Jimmy Stewart, no matter what role he was playing. Tom Hanks is more of a chameleon. He becomes the person he is playing. I saw him first in "Big", and liked him, but I thought that was maybe just his natural personality. Then I saw him in "Philadelphia". Then "Forrest Gump". And so on. His "Castaway" was yet another role. He amazes me! The only other actor nowadays (and he doesn't do much acting any more) who comes close (IMNSHO) is Dustin Hoffman.

I'm a Tom Hanks fan all the way. He is too amazing. Funny how he went from that old sitcom wearing dresses to a major actor. He was absolutely to die for in The Green Mile. Dustin is the same way, but different. From sleeping with Mrs. Robinson to Tootsie... God!
Mel is still one of my favourites. The thing I like about him is he's not afraid to play a part in which he's ugly (Man Without a Face).
Sean Connery... well that goes without saying. For an 70-something year old man, he's sexy as hell! Totally gorgeous in 'Highlander' in his mid 60's. He's been making news lately in Scotland what with the opening of the new Scottish Parliament building. Even the Queen of England had comments about it.

I'd read Winston Groom's novel when it first came out and was disappointed that Tom Hanks had the role of Forrest Gump. If you'd read the book it was clear that Forrest should have been played by someone like Dan Blocker, instead of Tom Hanks who just isn't big enough for the character in the book.

He actually shows some emotion, not just a hunk of wood like some other 'actors' that shall not be named. Another former wrestler gone on to better things. Like Jesse Ventura (became governor of Minnesota).
Has Anyone mentioned Russell Crowe yet? I think it's idiotic for him to have won an Oscar for Gladiator, but not for Insider (he gained 40 lbs. for Insider & shaved his head so the fake hair that he wore in it looked more real - he was a middle-aged dude with thinning grayish hair).
How about Johnny Depp????
And something about Tim Curry (fishnets & bustier or not) sends a shiver up & down my spine.
And what about "B" movie actors??? My fave among B's would be Bruce Campbell (see www.bruce-campbell.com).

I'm also a big fan of Stephen Fry, but I gather than my own gender is not to his taste :-(. Still, he's on my top 10 dinner guest list. As is Rick Mayall and Ben Elton.
