Thanks to TED, Miss Lily Whiskers came home this evening. A bit sore and
a bit bald on her bum, but OK.
TED took X-rays this morning and had a good look. Lily did indeed have
an airgun pellet lodged in her back, but fortunately it wasn't very deep
and he managed to remove it fairly easily. He's flushed out the wound,
packed it with some sort of oozy antibiotic healing gel that aids
healing and gets rid of the muck (but looks gross) and he has put her
back on much stronger antibiotics that are more paletable than the last
lot she had.
Apparently, the Cellulitis that she had as a result of the abscess
forming from the airgun pellet, had caused some of her fat layer to
start to necrotise, so he flushed all that gunk out too. Apparently with
the Cellulitis, she was just *unlucky* - because of where the wound was,
it couldn't drain properly and so wouldn't heal hence the spread of
infection.
TED has spoken to the RSPCA and the police himself today. Apparently
Lily was the 3rd cat this morning that he had in from the same
geographical area that had been shot with air pellets, he's had 8 cats
in this week that have been shot and it's only Wednesday. The police are
apparently taking him seriously, and I'll be filing an official report.
That's providing my baby bro doesn't kill the f**ker who did this to his
baby girl first..... ;o)

I am glad she is home and I know that she will do fine in such good
care. Your TED seems right on. Please tell your bro that he should
refrain. Not because the kitty-shooter doesn't deserve to get his butt
kicked but your brother doesn't need to get in trouble. Let's hope the
guy gets caught and resists arrest.

I don't think her brother should DO anything except be seen out and about
with Miss Whiskers.....sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

This reminds me of those kids who went to jail for killing a woman who
was driving under an underpass where they were dropping huge rocks
trying to hit cars. A really bad combination of boredom, poor
supervision, poor judgment, and a detachment from reality. I wish the
person responsible could see these kitties in the emergency room.

I remember that! In the Boston area, about 20 years ago, right? It was
horrible.

I'm glad Lily will be okay! Poor little thing, though. I'm also glad
the police are taking the vet seriously. It's just too bad that so many
poor cats had to take painful injuries for this problem to get the
attention it deserves.

I have missed all this today as I was at work. Work seriously impacts on my
ability to keep up with rpca!
I am relieved that the pellet was easily removed and I wish that the barrel
could turn around and shoot the perpetrator in the face as soon as it is
pointed at a living being.
I am a little concerned that my next-door-but-one neighbour has bought his
14 y o an air rifle which he seems very thrilled with. At the moment he
spends most of the time shooting at a target on his father's garage. Let's
hope that he'll remain satisfied with shooting at this.
God help him if he shoots at my cats, or chickens. Normally I am mild, but
if anyone threatens any of my animals I go berserk.

Purrs for Lily's swift and uneventful recovery.
The customary litterbox offerings etc. to the sob wot dunnit.
Finally here's hoping the frequency of shootings persuades the police to
actually DO something for once.

As I have been out all day I've missed this thread!
Might I add that he should be dumped into the middle of the hottest
area of Muslim fundamentalism available with nothing but an airgun to
protect his rapidly shrivelling genitalia and a sign in Iraqi reminding
the locals the prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) loved cats so much
that he once cut the sleeve of his robe off when he was due to be
preaching since to move his sleeve would have disturbed a cat and her
kittens who were asleep on his sleeve at the time...
Now there's a well trained slave (I've heard some Muslim's refer to the
"M" mark on a tabby's head (which we call "Mary's mark" as "Mohammed's
(Peace be upon him) mark"

That tale shows a side to al-Islam often obscured by the awful things
that have been done in the name of the faith.

Most religions have as their core values things like peace, love, respect,
dignity, etc. But religions are practiced by humans, after all, who are
far less than perfect. So in real life, the religions are only as good as
the people who follow them. Most religions have their extremists, and I'm
as much afraid of the extremists of other religions as I am of Islamic
fundamentalists. But there are plenty of down-to-earth, sane, rational
moderates in Islam, as there are in all of the other religions.

I have to tell you, I live in one of the most diverse areas in the US.
The kids my mother teaches are Latino, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani,
Afghani, from the former Soviet Union and more. And when 9/11
happened, after seeing that we were all OK, her first worry was for
her little Pakistani, Palestinian and Afghani kids. She only knows
them as children-- smart and not-so-smart, well and
not-so-well-behaved-- but entirely innocent. "What's this going to
do to them? What's going to happen to them?" And she continues to
worry about the world they are growing up in.

I just read the first report and then decided to look for a follow-up
before posting. I am so happy Lily wasn't hurt any worse than she was.
She was very lucky. And I am very pleased that TED is taking a hand in
this. The police seem to take action better from a professional rather
than a every day citizen. Sad, but true. I hope the perpetrator is
caught soon and punished to the fullest extent of the law. In the
meantime, Robin assured me that the Mothership is sending the perp
some evil dreams...hehe...;->
