badwilson - 29 Sep 2006 04:59 GMT Ok, Dennis has left for another 4 week work stint and I've got a few days off work, so have had time to finally catch up on the NG, which I've merely been skimming lately. I won't reply to all the posts, but want to send out purrs to everyone who needs them.
Last week, Dennis and I had our first grown-up dinner party. This involved several appetizers, main course, dessert, and appropriate drinks, etc. I've never done anything like that before, so was very nervous and spent the whole day in preparation. I'm proud to say it all went very well, whew! But the funny part was that Vino hadn't gotten a whole lot of attention. During the day, when I was preparing, he didn't care because he was zonked out on the bed sleeping anyways. But once the guests arrived, he kept pacing around, peeping out from behind furniture, and just generally being a cute little goofball. The funniest stunt though was while we were all sitting down to dinner and all of a sudden Vino trotted past the table with a furry mouse in his mouth, yowling all the way. After a minute, he trotted back the way he came in a very determined manner. It was soooo funny, it was just like a little kid going, "Look at me! Look at me!". Everyone had a good laugh and the guests were relieved to hear that it was a cat toy and not a real mouse :-)

I would love to have the crew out and about when we have parties, but they are such spoiled brats they would be on the table immediately, begging for food.

Maybe it's because Dennis and I never actually eat at the table, so he doesn't associate it with food? Who knows. But he's such a good boy, he doesn't really beg for food anyway.

From time to time she jumps on the bathroom counter to look at herself in the mirror ;) Yes, she knows she's pretty! But she's never jumped up on my kitchen counters or my coffee table. If I had a dining room table she probably wouldn't jump on that, either.

He can smell it a mile away and comes running. But he's not usually interested in hoomin dinners. He gets on the bathroom counter all the time, likes to drink out of the tap and also sits there and stares through the glass shower door the whole time I'm showering. He used to get on the kitchen counter all the time in Thailand, because we had a great window there from which he watched the outside. But in our kitchen here, there is nothing to see from the window but a big tall solid wood fence 3 feet away. So he doesn't get up on that counter much at all. We don't care if he gets up on the counter or table anyway. Just seems like it could be a neverending struggle to keep your cat off. It's just funny how he changed his habits according to the view from the counter and it had nothing to do with the food at all.

Even if I *try* to give them people food, like chicken, they turn up their noses. Isn't that funny?

Yep, he's back to his old self, that's for sure. He's gained all the weight he lost back, if not more. He's looking downright tubby actually. He really likes the c/d maintenance diet, has even begun to beg for his breakfast and dinner again. Unfortunately, I was really stupid and totally finished off the s/d before even buying the c/d. So the switch in foods was too rapid and gave him the runs :-( But after a couple of days, he was fine again. This afternoon, I was reading out in the back yard and Vino was lolling in the grass. And I mean lolling! He was rolling around on his back, from side to side, upside downy head, wiggles, etc. It was hilarious! He kept at it for a good 5 min straight. Never seen anything like it actually. So, have you started the new job yet? If so, how's it going? I'm guessing you won't have much use for an anorak now, it's getting really warm out :-)

Dunno about the weather thing, it was warm yesterday but it's bucketing down with rain here in Purrth today. I've just ordered a rather nice wet-weather jacket for cyclists which is near enough to an anorak I think.

Raining in Purrth? Wow, I had no idea. Down here it's still nice out, although windy and starting to cloud over. Are you going to be cycling to work for your new job? That would be great! I'm about to leave for work, dressed in my blue and yellow as per instructions in support of the Westcoast Eagles. Hmmm, strange that I should be doing this when I've never even actually watched a single game. But my co-worker is a fanatic and I figured I'd humour her :-)

But my co-worker is a fanatic and I figured I'd humour her :-) Yes, I'll be cycling to work in future. There's no public transport within 4 Km of where I'll be working, and although I do have a driving license I really don't want to buy a car. Thankfully the cycleway network in Perth has improved a lot in the last few years, and most of my route is on cycleways or shared paths, not on main roads.
I'm not much of a football fan. To me the best thing about the big match was that I got to do my shopping in almost empty shops for a change.

That's great, especially in the summer. Might be a bit wet in the winter, but it seems like it rains quite a bit less up there than down here.

I'm not one either but I was very relieved when the Eagles won today. Was worried about what the atmosphere around here would have been like if they had lost!

When Rusty was on C/D, his vet warned me he might put on too much weight with the food. So I only fed him the recommended amount and he didn't put on much weight. Rusty has always been on the skinny side. Is Vino eating the canned or dry C/D, or both?

He gets a heaping tablespoon of the wet for breakfast and dinner and in the day he has about 1/3 cup of kibble for snacking.

Debra Berry - 29 Sep 2006 15:33 GMT I had a friend and her fiance over for dinner one night. I didn't know the fiance very well and it was a good chance to get to know him better. I put crackers and soft cheese out on the coffee table as an appetizer. We all got up to go and look at something. When we returned Sabrina (my hooli-adult-cat) was standing on the coffee table licking the soft cheese. I shooed her away and was going to throw the cheese away when the fiance said "Don't do that, it's ok" then spread some on a cracker and ate it. My kitties and I share sometimes so I don't mind, but I was amazed that he was ok with it. I told my friend that I was definitely for the marriage. What a good guy!

I think host and hostess cats are so funny. Some friends of mine has a cat who always seems to be at the geometric center of gravity of any group of guests at their house.
I remember when I first met her - it was still a few years before I had gotten Betty, and I didn't know much about cats. But I was so mesmerized by her when I petted her, and she rolled over, that I rubbed her belly for what seemed like hours, until I finally realized that I was alone, because the party had moved on to another building for dinner.
