There is a terrible wind rushing around here as well as lashing rain, but
the wind has only just got up, so I felt obliged to check the chicken huts
to make sure everything was safe (it's very, very late here)
I have a lamp that fastens on my head, so put it on, got all the outer
clothes on, and set off down the garde, quite a long one it is, too. 156
yards, but I only had to go about 100.
Imagine my surprise when I realised Boyfriend had got up from his
comfortable place by the fire and decided to accompany me. I actually only
knew he had because I saw his reflective collar in the light of the headlamp
and then saw his tail in the air in front of me.
Not only that, but I had to turn back twice on my way back to secure roofs
after hearing more crashing behind me, and BF turned back with me too and
kept me company while I did it. In gale force winds and lashing rain at
1.30 a.m., he stayed with me. He didn't have to.
I love this cat, he's really special. I think he might love me a bit too.

I'm actually beginning to believe that he *is* starting to love me. The
other day he jumped up on my lap and settled down at the side of me in the
armchair. This was such an unusual thing that I almost held my breath the
whole time in case I scared him off.
It has taken 18 months for him to begin to like me and trust me as much as
he does - which is not all that much, really. If I picked him up to fly him
round the house, he'd just die. He just wouldn't have the confidence to do
it. I wish he'd become braver still and realise I'd never hurt him.
I suppose it'll take even more time, if at all.

What a wonderful cat is Boyfriend. And it is obvious that he cares for you,
or he wouldn't go out in that nasty weather to be with you. And what a
great person you are, Tweed, to do all that you do, cheerfully and yet still
have time to share your life with us. We enjoy your posts very much.

He is, he's totally changed my mind about what cats are like. They are not
always the smelly, scratchy, bitey, extremely touchy animals that I've
always experienced.
>And it is obvious that he cares for you,

It's not all that many months ago that he was too shy to let me touch him.
Last night he jumped up to sit next to me and this morning first he brought
me a bird (no comment, not approved of) then a mousie which I praised him
for and when I got home from "work" today there was a vole on the kitchen
carpet.

<blush> I won't be able to do it for very much longer, but I'll try to
respond to requests for purrs.
>We enjoy your posts very much.
<blush again> Thank you.
Today, after all my eye ops, I had a four hour assessment by someone from
the Royal National Institute for the Blind, to see what adapations would
help me back to work as soon as possible, even before my sight is expected
to improve. You would *not* believe what is available now. I expected to
get a hand held magnifying glass and a page size one and be told to manage
with that.
Oh, no. I can have (what they call) a CCTV camera - it's not the same as
what spies on you in the street - to read handwritten documents, enlarge
them and put them on to an extra screen at the side of my PC, so that I only
have to read from there and type it in.
I can have a hand-held portable CCTV to go to another room to read the
files. (Best thing about this is that you can hang it round your neck and I
can take it home with me, so I can read the print on the packets and cans in
the supermarket!!)
I also can have hand held thingies that scan documents too and much more as
well. You just run it over the print or handwriting and it's much easier to
read. My PC font will be changed so I can read it better too.
All this today has made me feel a bit emotional, to think that there are
things that can be done so that I don't have to be "on the sick" and can
once again earn for myself. And it will be done in just a few weeks.
<tears of emotion, not from being sad>
My employers *have* to do what is recommended, it would be against the law
if they didn't.
Isn't this just absolutely WOW?

Also, very helpful hint if you have to sit back from the desk to let a
furry lapfungus occuply their master.

I'm so happy for you. As I've lost my hearing I'm more aware of just how
much more of an effort it is to manage ordinary communication. Every little
bit helps.
Prayers and purrs that you adapt easily to the adaptive equipment and get
back to being and feeling productive. Boyfriend will just have to get used
to sleeping all day and enjoying his mornings and evenings and weekends with
you.
