For some unknown reason Tessie decided that tonight would be a good
time to creep in behind my computer desk and attack the speaker
wires... I didn't pay much attention to her, but she chewed right
through one of the wires, and got it tangled around her foot... so
there she was yowling and growling and complaining and trying to get
away but she couldn't get far because her paw was caught in the wire
:( I tried to help her from the front of the desk but I couldn't reach
and she was starting to growl at me, so I yelled for John and he
pushed the desk further away from the wall and she got enough space to
run out in the opposite direction, leaving the wire behind... Then we
got to chase her around the apartment for ten minutes trying to catch
her to make sure that she was okay!
She seems to be fine, but we both just about had a heart attack. And
did she learn anything? Of course not - she's already been back behind
the desk twice and I had to spray her with the waterbottle to get her
out!

Isn't that always the way?  You need an hour and ahlf to recover from
the adrenaline rush, and Ms. Tessie-Pants gets right back to business.

I'm concerned about her this morning... she does NOT want that paw
touched :( It can't be that bad because she just ran up to the top of
the cat tree to get away from me, but she's flinching away from touch
and showing her teeth and clearly saing 'DON'T DO THAT!'

Since her paw was *caught* in something, it *may* be sore, but it's more
than likely she just doesn't want it *caught* again, since it was a bad
experience.

For example, when Mimi was little (yes, there was a time when my butterball
was little ;) ), I was trimming her tiny little shivs (claws), and I pinched
a paw pad with the trimmers.  It hurt, apparently quite a bit, as she let
out a yelp.  I didn't cut her or draw blood, no major damage.  But to this
day, she still does not like to have her paws touched - even if she's doing
her impression of a furry-purry paperweight on my desktop, and I tap a paw
lightly, she will move it away!  It was just that bad of an experience for
her.  Also, Betty:  the first time *ever* she was picked up by a human, she
was scared to death (she bit me), and she still doesn't like to be picked
up - even if she's purring her little Weeble-twin head off, she looks
longingly at the bed (or whatever she was on when she got picked up), and
has a major look of relief on her face when I put her down!  Sometimes, even
if she *thinks* she's going to get picked up, she will scoot away, in her
little Betty-zoom (that's what we call it).
