On another group I mentioned that since I deaf I can't hear water running
and a friend replied with her efforts to get her cat to stop turning the
water on.  Reposted here with her permission.

that would be a huge problem around here.  my himalayan tortie is
fascinated by running water and has figured out how to turn lever handles on
to either just watch it or get her own drink.  we're talking bathtub, two
bathroom sinks, a bidet and a kitchen sink that the stinker kept me running
to, to turn off.  i tried duct taping them down (which made it too hard for
me to turn on), and rubber banding balloons to their handles  (looked cute,
but i think she thought so too).LOL  tried tobasco sauce and just plain
pepper and cayennne---the stinker likes the smell and rubs  herself on them,
then i get it in my eyes when i cuddle her (y'think she  figured out how to
get her revenge?LOL) tried wd40, cat repellant and  citris sprays, which
didn't even phase her.  thankfully, she's a little older now and does it
less often than she used to, but stil, every now  and  then . . .

ROFL!!
Gossamer loves to drink out of the faucet and will hop up to the bathroom
sink for a drink every time someone goes in there.  Thankfully she hasn't
figured out how to turn them on herself!

We call that a 'chick lick'.

OK, which would you rather have, a cat that turns on the water, or one
that waits till you sit down to take a break from housework and then
meows at the top of his voice for you to come turn the faucet on?

That's funny!  But the answer for your friend is a cat fountain.  Give her
her own running water fountain and she won't get toothpaste spit on her head
(I was afraid of that with Persia!) when you are brushing your teeth.  Of
course it's one more thing to clean every week...  but they do love running
water.  Funny, isn't it?

There are always special cases. I haven't seen some divorced friends'
Dorian Gray -- unfortunately, their cats went to a third party -- but he
was an aquatic cat. Obviously, he'd drink from the faucet and play with
the stream. It still isn't unprecedented that he would sit in the corner
of an active shower stall and watch.

But to jump into an active Jacuzzi, and happily spin in the whirlpool?
The part I especially liked was that he'd hold his tail high -- I was
never sure if it was a snorkel or periscope.

Our Tyche is a toilet-tyche who swims in the toilet, all four paws in.
She also jumps into the shower with MomDad and has been known to lie
in the sink with a trickle of water dribbling over her back.

Tyche is warped.

Mischief once upon a time loved to stand at the back of the stall when I was
taking a shower.  But, one day I stepped aside and let the shower stream
past me, which of course hit poor Mischief full on......in the next instant
Mischief, the shower curtain, 2 rolls of toilet tissue and a bar of soap
were all headed for the bedroom.  He's not been much of a shower kitty since
then.

Normal size...that's why she has to fold herself up into the meatloaf
position (cosmic muffin) to fit all four legs in.
