Oliver can be such a disciplinarian sometimes.  Last night I was
finishing putting the dishes into the dishwasher.  Oliver was on the
breakfast bar supervising and Boone (our lab) was sleeping under the
table.  After I finished I said "OK Boys, time for bed."  Oliver ran
into the bedroom and jumped on the bed.  Boone continued to snooze under
the table.  Oliver sat on the bed for a few minutes grooming and then
looked around.  You could tell he had just realized Boone wasn't with
us.  His eyes narrowed and he jumped off of the bed and ran into the
kitchen.  A few seconds later I heard a "Yelp!" from Boone and he came
running into the bedroom like his tail was on fire.  Oliver followed at
a leisurely pace.  I am certain that Oliver went and nipped Boone to get
him up and moving.  After all Meowmie had said it was time for bed!

That's lovely, Margaret.  I particularly like stories about cats and d*gs
getting on well together.

Tweed, you would love to see these two together!  They are always
playing or sleeping together and they watch out for each other.  They
really have great affection for each other.  When we take Oliver out in
his kitty stroller Boone's chest puffs out and he tries to lead whoever
we run into over to the stroller to show them "his cat."  They are very
funny together!

You're right, I *would* love to see them together.  When I was a teenager I
had a Lab/GSD mix bitch ( Pollyanna, one of my most beloved dogs ever.)  She
formed a friendship with a white longhair cat that lived a few doors away.
The cat used to come into our garden, and would rub round Polly's chest and
front legs, and Poll just loved it, so much that she would ask quite
frequently to go into the garden to wait for her friend.  When the friend
didn't come after about 15 minutes, Polly would come back into the house
looking sad.
After Polly went to RB, I got whippets.  Most whippets (but not all) are not
very safe with cats. I caught mine once in the garden grabbing a tabby cat
from both ends.  Fortunately, I managed to get it away from them almost
immediately.  It ran off, and recovered, I know that because it belonged to
a neighbour and I went round and put my hands up to it and offered to pay
any vet treatment.
All my dogs have gone to RB now.  Kitty never would have presented herself
at the door on my birthday if they hadn't, she had a few narrow escapes from
the whips herself.
It took several months before she really believed they weren't there any
more.

Silly dog.  Do not disobey your feline superior or there shall be pain! :)

A dog-herding cat. Love it.

Margaret,

I love your stories of Oliver and Boone. This past weekend I noticed a
man at a hotel walking a dog and a cat on leashes.  The dog was a Border
Collie type dog and the cat was a very large, solid black cat. They were
obviously on a morning constitutional but the cat was rubbing up against
the dog as it checked out the shrubs. Very cute.  The mental pictures of
Boone proudly showing off "his cat" are adorable. Thanks for sharing
this story.
