Sabrina has had an ear infection for a year and a half now. We've tried
flushing,
drops, and several kinds of antibiotics. It just keeps coming back. We
have also
seen a specialist. My vet thought she better have an MRI to see what is
keeping
it from healing. The MRI shows an abscess deep in her ear canal near
the ear drum.
My vet will be doing surgery on her with an ear scope today. Under
anesthesia he will
open up the abscess, clean it and medicate it. He wants to do this
weekly for
six weeks, or until it is healing well. My poor Sabrina has suffered
with this for
so long. I hope this will do the trick, but I worry about her being
anesthetized
so many times. She is only 3 1/2 years, and otherwise healthy. Please
purr and
send healing thoughts for Sabrina's first ear surgery. Thanks you.

Many purrs and prayers that this can be fixed to a successful conclusion
and quickly. Sir William went through months of something similar so I
feel yours and Sabrinas pain.

It's so hard to see them suffer for so long and no one can fix it. So
not fair. Many purrs that the surgery does the trick! And relax about
the anesthesia, even though it's hard. As long as bloodwork is done
first, and all precautions are taken (e.g., no food after midnight,
or whatever they advise) all you can do is have faith that all will
be well. Best of luck to you both, and for TEDs skills.

That was a good catch, finding the cause of her ear infections. Purrs
that the first surgery went well, and that the others will too. When
Betty was first getting radiation treatments, she was also
anesthetized weekly, and she was fine. I don't know what they're
using for Sabrina, but for the radiation, they used gas, so that she
was in and out, like a dentist's visit.

Thank you everyone for the purrs. Sabrina did fine with the ear surgery
and came home Fri evening. She will have to undergo the same surgery
once
a week for 4-6 weeks. TED is shaving away at the infected scar tissue
that
blocks her ear. He isn't sure if she still has an ear drum so he is
taking
it slow and peeling away at the abnormal tissue each week.
The surgery itself isn't dangerous, although she may lose hearing in
that
ear, but I hate to have her go through anesthesia so many times.

If it is any consolation, the risk of anesthesia is *not* cumulative,
so the next time she gets the gas, it will not be any higher risk
because she just got gas a week ago.

I'm glad it went well. At least they have better anesthesia now with that
