Duke of URL - 11 Sep 2006 15:50 GMT I have missed the fine people in this group a lot. So - I shut down some other NGs to allow me time to access this one again. Afraid my reading it will still be erratic. I am still suffering from some weird sleep disorder that renders me unconscious for long periods. For example, I just slept completely through Sunday... But I /will/ get in here whenever I can.

I wondered about you a few times.

DUKEY!!!!!!
I'm so glad to see you again. I've been wondering how you are doing and what you're up to. How are the cats and how are you doing other than the sleep disorder? Rob says to tell you hi.

Only one catboss these days - Chaos the minimainecooncat. Although she's 16 come Halloween, she still thinks she's young. My health ... well, let's just say I'm "maintaining". No further major heart problems; the nerve deterioration seems to have slowed; the C-PAP keeps me breathing all night long.
Unfortunately, I'm having air-intake difficulties when awake these days. Kinda like there's a tight elastic strap about my chest, interfering with inhaling. Not painful, but REALLY aggravating! Griped about it to the doctor. He looked at my latest body xrays and told me it's because of the rotting spine - as the vertebrae decrease, the spine shortens (naturally) and puts increased pressure on chest cavity. Not at all unusual in people with my problem. Not a thing to be done about it, it seems, just "live with it". Ah weel... at least I am still breathing.
What sort of mischief are you and Rob up to these days?

[quoted text clipped - 12 lines] > > What sort of mischief are you and Rob up to these days? Well, I'm back in college working on my associates of arts degree, and hoping that I can use it to get into the local university and parlay it into a bachelors of education/english degree and go to work as a teacher. My grades tend to be one extreme or another. I turn 51 tomorrow, which I assume means that I start working on that downhill slope. I'm still enjoying life, and that's what is important.
Rob is still officially in remission. He has a medical appointment for Monday to talk to the oncologist and get set up for his next MRI. On the home front, the state of North Carolina made him turn in his driver's license last week. He took it better than I would have. It's hard for him as he must feel that he has less and less control of his life all the time. Which is why I try to ignore the occasional temper tantrum, snit fit or whatever he throws in my direction. Not that life with him is hard, just that I'm used to the snit fits coming from my daughter and not my husband.
Michael is in college learning auto body repair and loving it. I'm hoping that it means that he will choose that as a career and save us all some headaches in the future. Mandy is going through night school and says that she has way too much homework and wants to drop out. We're not letting her.
Finances suck, as usual, and we're hanging onto the house with a shoe string at best. Since the city forcibly annexed us, our house payments have almost doubled, since they charged us two years of taxes at once and the mortgage company is taking that as a permanent change. A lot of houses in the area have gone up for sale as a result of the annexation.
Now that you've heard my tale of woe, how is Chaos doing and are you thinking of adopting any new masters?

Hey, happy birthday, to one who is exactly 364 days younger than I am. :) We will both be 51 for one day only.

Hi Duke:
We have not met, I have only been posting here a little while. But I thought I would interject and introduce myself on account of the fact that you might be interested in another group where I post: alt.support.sleep-disorders
I will admit, the vast majority of the posters there are people with OSA and most of them are on CPAP or BiPAP at night. But there is also a small contingent with central sleep disorders as well. The discussions are lively, and it is a strong cohesive group which seems to take the "support" issue seriously.
Yes, I too have a sleep disorder, as you can tell by the time of this post. And yes, I have cats too, which is why I am here. I wonder if there is a tendency for people with sleep disorders that result in insomnia to keep cats? They certainly make the best companions to keep one company in the long watches of the night.
