A birthday cat

First of all, today is Senyah's <mumbletymumble-th> birthday. We went
to bed around 11:30pm, and I was singing to her,

  "Happy almost birthday to you,
Happy almost but not quite yet birthday to you.
Happy not yet but nearly birthday, dear Senyah,
Happy ain't your birthday quite yet to you."

So Senyah says she hears one of the cats crying. I get up and look
around. None of the cats is crying. In fact, all three of them are
trying to settle in for their nightly naps.

Okay, back to bed, and starting to doze off. It still isn't Senyah's
birthday, I remind her, as we both fall to sleep.

JUST as I am in that zone between waking and sleeping, there is a loud
"RAP! RAP! RAP!" at one of the doors. What the hell? It's past
midnight.

I grab some pants and check the back door. Looking out the peephole, I
see nobody. I open the door, and still nobody. Spot is out there. I
wish his damn slave would let him in at night.

I close the door and go check the front door. Nobody there except Baby
Kitten, who dances away from me when I try to pick him up. Hmmm.

Okay, one last time to the back door. I look out the peep hole again.
I don't see any funny business, but there is a grey and white cat.
While still looking out, I turn the latches on the deadbolts, and the
grey and white cat stays there.

I hear neighbors outside, going up the stairs, and go outside again.
The grey and whie cat backs away, but starts meowing rather loudly at
me. I stop and stare.

Buster? Buster!!!!

He meows back at me some more, and I pick him up. He cuddles into my
shoulder and purrs. He is bony as hell! I bring him inside, go into
the bedroom and turn on the light. I tell Senyah that it looks like
her birthday present is here.

I'm cuddling Buster, and he is massaging my arm with his claws out (as
usual!), but I don't mind. I have tears running down my face, as I
figured him for lost or dead.

I have not slept a wink all night, as I have been petting and cuddling
my long lost boy. He made three trips to the food bowl (that I know
of) during the night, and came back to bed, where he could sleep on
top of me or Senyah, alternating between us often enough, that I don't
think Senyah slept much either (big grin).

I have tears running down my face, but they are tears of joy. Buster
is back home!

All i could figure out about the knock on the door, is that maybe
Buster was loud and persistent enough that he disturbed the neighbors,
even if we didn't hear him, and that the neighbors figured to disturb
us to deal with "that noisy cat."

I am so glad they did!!!!!!

Hugs and Purrs,
Mark

I guess so. I had pretty much given up on seeing Buster again, when
he just showed up. I, still in a wtate of pleasant shock.

He is making up for missed dinners as I speak (grin), and making up
for missed cuddles. He woke me up several times with his "I need
lovin" chirrup. Only too happy to oblige. And my lap is *HIS* anytime
I sit.

Maybe my prediction that he might come back when the temperatures
cooled off was on the mark...

The other cats are still checking him out and trying to figure out
where he's been (yeah, me too!). Dulce Mae, spoiled princess that she
is, is a little jealous, and batted Buster on the head a few times
after pretending to a nose touch (evil little girl - grin). Basically,
though, Buster is reintegrating nicely.

That was Bubba Kitty. I haven't seen him and his slave in a long
time, but I hear he's living the life to which he'd like to become
accustomed (grin).

Oh, you mean that woman who tolerates me and my kitties (big, evil
grin)?

FANTASTIC news, Mark.  This is the second piece of good news I heard today.
My friend phoned to say her whippet got a third challenge certificate
yesterday and is now a Champion.  It's hard to make up a champion in
England.
I was thrilled.  He is a lovely sound dog and she is a lovely person too.
They deserve it.
Hearing that Buster was home put the icing on the cake.

The last few months RL has been full of challenges so that I have not
been reading the ng all that often. But I remember when Buster
disappeared. I cried and prayed for him so many times. Then tonight I
decide to check in on the ng and start crying with joy that Buster is
home. Another miracle cat. He might have been locked up in someone's
garage all this time, living on mice and bugs. Poor boy. I hope the
Vet says nothing is wrong but hunger and perhaps a bit of
malnutrition. But that will soon be cleared up now he is home with his
loving slaves. Hugs and Purrs,

Talking of MIA, I'm getting concerned that we haven't heard from Helen S.

nothing serious.

I just dropped her a line and she replied that RL is very busy. So
nothing to worry about, though we do miss her input.

Thanks for that, I thought of e-mailing her but didn't want to intrude. I
should think one of the things keeping her busy is preperations for Nathan's
birthday, which IIRC is this month.

Greetings all.

Thanks for being concerned over my whereabouts :-)

Life is getting in the way of...err... life!

It's still time trial season for Nathan and this means every weekend and at
least one night a week, I act as chauffeuse to the competitive one. As he's
doing a national series competition, this has meant some weekends travelling
the land rather than just the usual local events. Plus now he's back at
college, there's the getting back into that routine of early mornings. And
over the winter he's going to be doing cyclocross, which means winter
weekends travelling about too.

Nathan is indeed 18 next month. Which means that he legally becomes an
adult. Can't see any major celebrations being arranged as he's had a
shedload of dosh spent on him in terms of a new bike. Cyclocross requires a
different kind of bike to time trials, so we bought him one of these:-

http://www.awcycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b107s184p6035&tbv=KINESIS_Crosslig
ht_Pro_3_FRAMES_&_FORKS_Frames_-_Cyclo_Cross

and also

http://www.awcycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b107s217p6044&tbv=KINESIS_Crosslig
ht_Carbon_FRAMES_&_FORKS_Forks_-_700c_Cyclo_Cross

Then there was various bits & bobs, such as chainset... pedals... cables...
clothing... shoes... which all mounts up. Any parent who has offspring keen
on sport will know that the costs can soon mount up. With Nathan's time
trialling, his equipment is professional-level kit, and his cyclocross stuff
isn't cheap even though it's not professional level equipment that we've got
him. He's going to do that over the winter to maintain fitness and improve
bike handling skills. Nathan has been spending some of his free-time over
the summer building up the parts into a rather decent cyclocross bike.

Vernon has some ill health at the moment. Dealing with that is stressful as
he's been quite badly incapacitated (still is) and I'm doing a lot of
chauffeuse-ing him about too. Hopefully, matters seem to be picking up a bit
for his health too, but not sure yet.

The felines are still ruling the roost with velvet claw, which is just as it
should be.

Cheers, helen s

Well, your brain has to work for a person to post! :-D I have had so
much going on to manage my health, learning new things and making

Thanks for the purrs. But there won't be a full recovery. I can regain
strength and my back will get better, and my heart will get better.
But I will be taking 8 pills and an inhaler and insulin the rest of my
life and be on oxygen as well. I did it to me; now I am paying the
consequences. I am just so thankful I am alive and getting better and
have great medical care now. And I have some stories percolating in my

It sounds a bit like when Jake returned from his longest walkabout.  We had
posters up everywhere, etc.  There was a knock, and no one there but him.  I
kind of thought someone found him and didn't want to deal with us due to the
condition he was in or to be stuck with him if he wasn't ours.  But they at
least made a stab at getting him and owners hooked up.  From the looks of
him he'd been locked in somewhere.

So glad Buster is home.

That is so wonderful! The poor guy, where can he have gotten to?? You
must be dying to know - and he can't tell you. But he finally found
his way back - that's what really matters.

Happy birthday to Senyah, and happy homecoming to Buster! A joyful
day in your (ever-growing) household!

Yippee!  What a birthday present indeed! :)

and you must be quite the singer, for a special custom birthday song
to cause the birthday girl to respond with "one of the cats is crying"

Oh Mark and Senyah!!!  What a wonderful purrday present Buster has given you
all.  I'm crying with joy too.  Please tell Senyah happy purrday for me, and
please give Buster a big hug and a scritch from all of us here.  I'm so glad

I am SO happy for you, Mark! The only cat I ever had vanish was one I was
slowly taming from being an outdoors stray to where he'd allow me to bring
him inside for a few minutes.
When he didn't show up for feeding/scratching one day, I waited 24 hours,
then started slowly driving up and down every alley within a mile or so,
calling him (he had gotten to where he trusted me enough to come trotting up
when I called him - that meant "food"). No luck. Finally, the local Animal
Shelter informed me his body'd been identified. He tried to cross a street
(20MPH limit) by the Mall and was run over by a car witnesses said was doing
well over 40MPH.
So, when someone's lost owner returns to them, it's a joyous time in my
opinion.
