Pleeeeze check out this book I got at the Vancouver Museum of Art
called "Why Cats Paint". It has a whole theory of cats having a strong
aesthetic sense with some fantastic pictures of cats in action putting
Jackson Pollock to shame. It claims that some of the more famous cats
can sell their paintings for upwards of $30,000.00, I kid you not.
This book is one of my coffee table treasures, but I am afraid to put
any paint down for my budding artistes....I let them sketch it out in
the litterbox.

I think they keep their servants (read hyoomaaans) in the style to
which they are accustomed!

Yep, that'd be right...Hoomans get a new jag and 5 swimming pool mansion and
the cats get a few extra tins of Fancy Feast.

That book is kind of a fancy joke, a satire of art criticism. I have no
doubt that many cats love to (or *would* love to, given the chance) play
with paint. And for all I know, some may even have a visual aesthetic
sense. But I don't think there's anything scientific in that book - it's
mostly poking fun of the pretentiousness of art critics, is how I see it.
The added bonus, of course, is plenty of wonderful kitty photos for us
ailurophiles! :)
Also, don't miss the companion book, "Why Paint Cats". Seriously. It's
full of pictures of cats with elaborately painted fur, made to look like
something else. All done in Photoshop, of course! :)
