Abusive cat

I really should pay more attention when I walk past a mirror, I
suppose.

Last week, I was waking up to the alarm clock. It was early, Little
Boy was on the dresser, standing on the clock radio, trying to look
through the drapes.

It was not, in fact, time to wake up. Little Boy had just managed to
step on the button that turns on the radio. Heavy sigh...

So I reach up to turn off the radio. I then reach up to pick up Little
Boy, so I can bring him down to my level for a little preemptive
cuddling, in the hopes that he will stay away from the radio.

Now, I keep a water bottle on the edge of the dresser, near the clock
radio, in case I get thirsty at night. Mostly I don't, so the water
bottle (about a 20 ounce size) is usually full.

At my first touch, Little Boy reached out for the water bottle and
pushed it off the dresser. It hit me in the face. But I'm sleepy, and
it doesn't phase me. I grab Little boy, we cuddle, and I go back to
sleep with my kitty bear until the alarm goes off at the right time.

I've finished showering, combing my hair, all the things you usually
do to get jump-started in the morning, and walk into the bedroom,
where Senyah is getting dressed.

Senyah looks at me and asks, "Where did you get the black eye?"

I go back to the mirror, and sure enough, my left eye is starting to
purple up a little. I guess Little Boy really didn't want to be
removed from the window...

Fortunately, the bruise went away after a couple of days - well before
my next job interview.

A GE clock radio, by any chance? I have one of those, with all the
little buttons on top, so that cats get to change the time, and also
press the "snooze" button, which turns on the radio. Usually I have
the volume turned up extremely loud so it's sure to wake me up, and
it scares the hell out of all of us if it suddenly goes on at an
inappropriate time.

My solution was to put a jar of hand cream on top of the clock radio.
Nobody seems interested in sitting on it now.

Awww... he's a sweetie. If I grab any of my cats, they will stalk off
in a huff. They want it clear that when they come to cuddle with me,
it's because *they* chose the time and place, thank you very much.

I'm impressed that you are continuing to set the alarm, even though
you're not working. Me, I slept until noon or later!

I guess you're lucky you didn't have a job to go to that day - that
would be an interesting one to try to explain! (Does "my cat gave me
this black eye" have the same ring of truth as "my dog ate my homework"?)

Mine has all the buttons on the top, and the time used to get
changed occasionally. If only it was the minutes, but NO, it had to
be the hours. And of course, the alarm would go off hours early,
and I'd be out of the shower before finding out that I'd been
tricked. I just know it was because *someone* was hungry and wanted
to be fed earlier.

I now lay a book across the top, so all of the buttons are covered.
Problem is, I only have to touch the book to press the snooze
button.  ;)

Wow, you really must have been in a sleep-induced fog if you didn't
notice that the sun wasn't in the right place. :) If I got up *hours*
earlier, it would still be dark!

Because of this behavior, I stopped feeding my cats the very second I
get up. I now get up, pee, brush my teeth, shower, dry off, get dressed,
fix my hair, start my breakfast, and pack my lunch, *all before* kitties
get their food. So they don't associate my getting up with eating. In
fact, when I first get up, they don't even budge from their spots. The
human's getting up, ho-hum, no big excitement. But when they hear the pop
of the cat food can lid coming off, then they all stream into the kitchen.

Or if a kitty sits on the book, doesn't that press the snooze button, too?

When is somebody going to make a cat-friendly clock? Or, rather, a
cat-*person*-friendly clock? :)

LOL! I get up at 5:30am. It's dark *now* when I get up.  :) There's
only a few months when it's light then.

Oh, they weren't fed. I don't feed them until I'm out of the
shower, and teeth brushed. I can't get them to go longer than that.
Well, everyone but Bonnie I could, but she's such a food hound that
she starts fights with everyone when she's hungry.  It's normally 6
am when they get breakfast.

I hope they don't learn that trick! Actually, they rarely sit on
the book. Sitting on the book doesn't change the time, though.
Those buttons are recessed, but the snooze button is raised.

Get on it woman! And get a patent! You'll likely make a fortune. :)

With "room darkener" blinds, my bedroom is ALWAYS dark.

Oh, mine, too! Before I got my current job, I was pretty much nocturnal,
and slept for a good part of the day. So I needed to block out light. I
bought some of that curtain liner that blocks out light, and I made some
curtains. It is impossible to tell what kind of day it is out before I
leave the bedroom.

However, by the time I made it into the shower, I would be aware of what's
happening outside.

About the same time they realize that lamps that turn on and
off when you exert pressure on the base are NOT a very good
idea in households with pets!  The same goes for floorlamps
with rocker switches on the base, instead of near the bulb.
(And nearly every lamp I saw, when I was trying to replace
the one my cleaner broke, had that arrangement instead of a
normal on/off switch.)

Mine has the buttons on top, too, but you have to press BOTH
"set" or "alarm" and the timeset buttons to change the time
(or the time the alarm is due to go off).  Fortunately, the
cats haven't figured that one out, yet - although I don't
dare put it where I could turn it off and go back to sleep,
so the radio is on top if a fairly high chest of drawers.
(Along with a lot of other unenticing stuff, so the cats
have not - yet - chosen to occupy it.)

My clock radio has dials on the side for setting the volume and
tuning.  Cinders has made me late to work a couple of times by rubbing
against the tuning dial and changing the radio to be between stations,
and on one occasion I was wakened very abruptly by the clock radio,
due to her rubbing against the volume control and turning it up much
louder than usual.

Nocturne has been known to push over the bedside lamp onto our heads if
we don't wake up in time to suit her.

Apparently Little Boy has taken lessons from Nox...

*snicker*  That'll teach you to take a kitty away from his window!!

I once went to a job interview with a broken toe.  It was *impossible*
to get a shoe on over the toe, so I had to wear sneakers.  Fortunately,
it was only an interview with a temp agency, and they were very
understanding about it.  They gave me several jobs.

Ahh! Ok, you're a hard sleeper to sleep through that!  Years ago,
when I had only ONE cat, I was running to answer the phone because
I was expecting the call (pre-cordless phone, so couldn't put it
next to where I was) and kitty picked that time to weave between my
legs, and I tripped over him and went face first into the coffee
table. Broken front tooth, and a hole in my lip. That was my worst
injury from a loving cat.  LOL

Good luck on the interview, or if it's already past, best wishes to
get the job.

My cats haven't figured out how to turn the alarm on, but has been
known to record CD music onto an MD while I was sleeping.  Also to step
on the volume button of the CD player.
