Hello there,

after reading here for about ten days I found out that I want to give
my 2 pence every now and then. So I think it`s about time to introduce
me and my gang to the group here. It feels so good to have found other
slaves to the furballs. I am obviously not the only crazy can-opener
who does everything to make his cats feel good. Cat owner`s concerns,
problems, joys and amusements are seemingly the same all over the
world.
O.K. we live in Germany, in the rural countryside east of Berlin.
Beautiful landscape, no jobs, agricultural area. I moved here from
South Germany, after the wall had come down in 1999, for here were
affordable old farmhouses to have.
Me and my cats wanted to say hi to all of you. Please be understanding,
as my english sometimes might be way off.<g>

kind regards

Bettina,
owned by Moritz, Lissinda (aka Lissie), Zorrolina (aka Zorro),
Felix, Hugo and Luna. Host to Mohrchen, Julius and Peter.

Hi Bettina! Welcome! Wow...you really *are* a proper cat slave...you
have six kitties? I have five (for the moment!)
Now you must introduce us to them and tell us a little about each one.
Don't worry about your English, it sounds great to me.
Sherry
Lightwell - 07 Sep 2006 18:52 GMT
Hi Sherry,

thank you for your warm welcome.
Well, 5 cats are a lot either. <g>
Here in germany most people have at best only two and consider me
to be crazy for having so many of them. But - I didn`t plan to, they
happened to me. And - I live in a house in the countryside and they
don`t have to live in an apartement, they can roam free as a cat should
- in my humble opinion.

If living in an apartement I would probably have only two, to keep
themselves company.
I feel so sorry for alone living cats.

Now, as you asked for it, I will introduce my furry monsters to you.
You know - I knew that I loved my cats a lot, but after reading some
days
in rec.pets.anecdotes and rec.pets.healthandbehaviour, I came to know
that
I really LOVE my cats. <g> Like you all do here.
OK, here the introduction begins, there is:

Moritz, the big black - son of gentle Benjamin (RIP) and wonderful
mother Luzie (RIP).
Moritz looks as if wearing a smoking. All black and a white chest. The
only cat I`ve never seen a spot of dirt on. He is a real gentleman and
the boss of the gang. Although a lot of other male cats visit our house
he always plays it cool and just ignores them. Very seldomly he decides
to throw one of them out, but when he decides to give the mean cat he
really looks and sounds frightening. WoW!

Lissinda, the bold black and white one -  sister of Moritz.
Bold refers to her figure not her character. It took ages for her to
leave the safe place under the sofa. Now she is, despite her very round
appearance, a deadly night hunter and is stockpiling twice a week our
kitchen with mice.

Zorrolina, the one with the black mask - sister of Moritz.
I believed Zorro to be a male, hence the name. It is difficult to
determine a kittens gender.
My fault.<g> Zorro is a slim, sweet, cuddly black and white one.( I
think she is my favourite, but I don`t like to admit it. In the end all
are my favourite ones. I helped Luzie giving birth to Zorro, that might
have made a special bond.)

Felix, the big red - when I moved to the new village he used to live at
my neighbour (a 70 year old Lady with about 7 to 10 cats living in and
around her little house). One year after my arrival Felix got ill and
the old lady wouldn`t call the vet as that would have involved spending
money.
So I took him to the vet ( with her permission) and cared for him. He
then decided to move into my house.<g> He is a big, red and white
tabby. A friendly, quiet cuddler.

Hugo, the Nervous - found him three years ago some day in the bathroom,
behind my washing machine, together with his his sister Sina. Both
appr. 8 weeks old. The backdoor is open the whole summer, so they must
have sneaked in. Hugo is a lean, fast hunter, grey-white tabby. Spends
day and night outside, pursuing utmost urgent businesses. Deep at night
he drops in, empties the feeding bowl, catches a bit affection and
climbs the bookshelf to get some sleep. Very busy guy.

Luna, the little Cutie - she was presented to me one day last year in
the summer. At 6 o`clock in the morning someone was yelling my name on
top of his lungs through my bedroom-window. I sat upright in a matter
of nano-seconds, deeply shocked, staggered to the window expecting
WordWar III.
There, a neighbour was balancing on his bicycle, reaching up to me
something little I couldn`t make out at first (glasses still on bedside
table). I grabbed the little furry thing which worked out to be another
kitten <sigh><g>.  He`d found it on his way to work beside her mother,
which had been murdered by another car-driver. Luna is a fine, little
grey and white cat who loves to walk all over me and put her whiskers
up my nose, and then having nailed me to the floor with both her
forepaws, loves to bite me tenderly in the tip of my nose. That gives
her great satisfaction.<bg>

Well, so much for the ones I consider to be mine.

There is more, as Mohrchen, Julius and Peter try to make our house
their home too.
I am thinking about it. Winter is nearing. We'll see how they adapt, as
at the moment they're spitting at each other every time they meet
accidentaly in my living-room. <sigh>.

You asked for it. A lot of text. Sorry.
Now, do you feel like dropping a line or two about your cats?

bye for now

Welcome to the group, Bettina. You're going to love it here.  We need
PICTURES!  Can you put pictures somewhere for us to see?  By the way,
your english is wonderful.

I have just one cat, Rita, and she rules my life with an iron paw.
She's a beautiful tortoiseshell cat who is about 3 years old. I got her
at the local shelter after my last kitty Fin died on my living room
floor at only 10 years old. I still miss him sometimes.  *sniff*

Rita loves all people, especially men, but hates all other animals.
However, I keep thinking about getting her a pet of her own to keep her
company while I'm away at work. She tends to be very clingy and needy
when I'm home, and I think she's lonely.
I have some pictures of her up on www.picturetrail.com.  Go to the
ladyjaneinmd album.

Hi LadyJane,

> I have just one cat, Rita, and she rules my life with an iron paw.

I love impressions like that one.

Well, I followed the link and got to picturetrail.com
and I was too stupid to find the albums there.
I even became a member but found no albums. <sigh>
They don't even have a search-function.

Anyway, it was deep at night and I might have missed something there.
So, I am sorry I didn`t succeed in seing Rita.

Thanks for your welcome, I feel home already here.:-)

> Now, as you asked for it, I will introduce my furry monsters to you.

Welcome, Bettina. I enjoyed reading about your clowder.

I live in Helsinki, Finland, with my two cats, Miranda and Caliban. To
tell you their stories, I have to go back to the other two cats I shared
my life with before them. Frank (1987-2005) was a tuxedo gentleman
(somewhat like your Moritz, I imagine - funny that; my best friend when
I was little was the boy next door called Moritz) and Nikki (1988-2005)
was a tiny tuxedo girl. In November 2004, my niece's Russian Blue cat
Kira had kittens, but after the litter was born, they found out that the
litter could not be sold as show cats (some mess-up with the father's
pedigree), and they had to find homes for the kittens as pets. When they
still had two kittens left in March 2005, I said I'd take the girl. That
is how Miranda came into our household.

I May 2005, Nikki had a seizure and eventually had to be put to sleep.
She had just started making friends with Miranda, and now she was left
without a playmate. Frank was very sedentary by now, and mostly only
wanted to sleep. So in August 2005, I adopted Caliban from a fosterer
who worked with Estonian street cats. Caliban's mother was found
pregnant in the streets of Tallinn, but Caliban was born in a foster
home and socialized to people from birth. He and Miranda soon became
best friends.

In December 2005, Frank's health had deteriorated so much that he had to
be released from his misery, too. So I lost my two old friends the same
year, and I'm still trying to get used to having this completely new cat
family (Nikki was nearly 17 when she died and Frank had just turned 18).

We live in an apartment in town, with an enclosure outside for the cats
when they want to go outside. In the summer, we go to an island in the
southwestern archipelago, and the cats are allowed to run free there. If
you want to see pictures of Mir and Cali, as well as Frank and Nikki, go
to the links in my signature.

Hi Marina,

nice to meet you and your family.
How do you travel with your cats?
Isn`t it great stress for you and the cats?
But on the other hand - holidays,
roaming free on green ground. Sounds good.

Greetings to Helsinki.

the trip is always a bit stressful - 3-4 hours on a bus, and then half
an hour by boat - but it's worth it. The cats are so happy when we get
out there. This was Caliban's first summer on the island. Here are some
pictures from the island this year:

Hi again,

loved your photos, the cats seem to be very happy there.
Especially I like the one where both of them are overlooking the sea.
But it sounds really stressful to get there. By bus and boat with two
cats and luggage.

Now, I just finished uploading some of my photos to webshots.
Hope the link works.

Thank you so much. Yes, it was funny. The kids deep asleep had no clue
that
they shared their bed with someone. It was again Felix, the red and
Julius
who chose company with the kids.

It's quite a hassle each time, but well worth it for the four or five
weeks we stay out there. Sometimes I can get a lift with my brother or
sister in their car, and that makes it faster and easier.

Lovely cats, and they look very happy. My favourite is 'Felix the golden':

I don't understand how you all are getting to see Bettina's pics!  Every
link I click on, even the ones you and Adrian posted, take me to a page
saying it's a private album and I need an invite to view it.  What am I
doing wrong here?

O-K. - I have no clue why it doesn`t work for you, as it is my 1st
webshots album.
They gave me a lot of links, and I tried the shortest one.<g>
And I went to make the album publik. Which I didn't want to, as it
seemed to work as private one well, but now I did it.

Hi Karen thank you and hello to the three of you.

Yes, I love this picture too. You have to imagine that Mohrchen was

He has a perfectly fine home next to my house with his owner, a 70year

You bet they have.<g> And, as my house is the last one at the end of
the
village they have lots of meadows and farmland around. Thats one of the
reasons I moved here - on three sides of the house are no neighbours.
It is a beautiful sight to see a cat run full speed over green gras,

Welcome to the group.  The rest of your cats hide because they know the
evils of miniature hoomins.  My cats understand and most hide as well.

Thank you! And yes, I think they hide because most kids haven`t learned
yet how to approach a cat properly. Kids are too loud and too fast when
happy. (ohh - a kitty...)<g>

One of the most embarrassing moments of my life was when finally after
months of wanting to touch the kitties and both Fugazi and Isis being
of the opinion that no way was that grubby, sticky handed 5 year old
going to spoil their fur, my friends little boy finally managed to
approach the cats properly and after sniffing him (to make sure he had
washed I suspect) they decided they might as well accept his worship.

"Are they boy or girl cats?" he asked

"Girl cats"

"Are they married?"

"Cats don't get married" I said

Wide eyed he posed the important question: "If they don't get married
how do they have little cats?"

I just looked at his father and said "THAT is YOUR department"

Wide eyed he posed the important question: "If they don't get married
how do they have little cats?"

<g> - yes, the mysteries of life. Hard to grab for a little one.

When I was stuck in an three-room apartement in a 10-apartement-house
with
unexpectedly 6 cats. I went in hiding.<g>
Neighbours already knew that I owned 2 cats which seemed ok, as some of
them also had one or two cats. This is in germany regarded as "normal".
But if they had knewn that there suddelny where 6 cats living with me,
sooner or later
one of them would have come up with statements like" It smells in the
staircase". (And it dind`t)
I knew that was about to happen, as humans are that way. So, everytime
the doorbell rang I got the feeling of "Oh my god, nobody is to see the
cats." And as cats read minds and emotions, they all vanished
miracelously somewhere in cabinets or under sofas.

Unfortunately they kept that behaviour even after moving to our house
here.<g> They now vanish to the shed outside and to the old little barn
outside. <sigh> So when they hear voices and footsteps coming up the
steps to the house they go "wuuuuushhh - away".<g>
Only the later adopted cats are not marked by those emotions I had in
that apartement.
On the other hand - it`s ok with me, cause it`s safer if cats don`t
approch strangers.
Cheryl Perkins - 11 Sep 2006 16:08 GMT
You need all your cats to have the same fur colours.

At one point, someone was surprised when they saw two cats in my house -
she'd always assumed that she was seeing the same brown tabby in the
window, and I guess had never seen both of them there at once.

I had a reverse experience once, when one of the neigbhours complained
that all my cats were keeping him awake fighting and mating on the back
porch roof right outside his bedroom window. I assured him that both of
mine were spayed (and not interested in mating) and sleeping peacefully
indoors on the night in question, but I don't know if he believed me.

Lol...Yes, thank goodness Jasmine's kittens are all the same colour as she
is; my landlord is a cat lover, but I think if she realized exactly how many
cats I have she would be concerned; But the are all orange tabby and white,
and Congo is the spitting image of Jasmine, slightly different markings, but
Moe and Garfield are nearly identical; Moe just has the more evenly divided
tabby blaze and they have opposite white tips on their ear. But to the
casual observer; identical!! (lucky for me)

I had a dog when I was a teenager.  On one occasion, I got an
anonymous phone call saying, "If your dog doesn't stop barking right
now, I am going to shoot it!".  The caller then hung up.  My dog was
fast asleep, and had been for the last hour.  My dog did not end up
getting shot by anyone; I don't know what happened to whatever dog the
caller was hearing.

I remember one of our neighbours stuttering a bit when I really wanted to
know when their Lassie-type collie was going to have puppies, because she
was female and there were lots of male dogs around. I needed to know so I
could persuade my mother we needed a puppy, and I couldn't understand how
the neighbour could be absolutely certain the collie wouldn't have any
puppies. She was female, right? And grown up, right? So what was the
problem?

That's true, I've seen that happen. I had some friends over for dinner
once when I still had Tika (now RB). They had a gregarious one-year-old,
who, the moment she saw Tika, let out a loud squeal of delight. Tika,
who wasn't known for scaredy-cat behavior, saw the tiny monster, heard
the terrible squeal, and was Outta There, not to be seen again for the
rest of the evening.

On the other hand, I've also seen situations where cats will put up with
all manner of handling from a child, which, if you were to attempt to do
the same thing, the cat would shred you. Sometimes they seem to make
special allowances for mini-humans.

Lol. It depends on the cat...I'll be putting up some grown up pictures of
the boys later today, and I have sevral of Garfield being mauled by my son;
in one picture Ruben is actually sleeping on top of Garfield; who is also
asleep, quite happily.

Someday I'd like to have a big bunch of cats, but for now, I only have
one cat; a very pretty calico named Kenzie.

I got her when one of a pair of older cats went to the Bridge, and the
remaining cat, Blizzard, was lonely.

Sadly, Blizzard and Kenzie never became friends, and 2 years later, when
Blizzard was 18 years old, she also went to the Bridge.

Kenzie seemed much happier when Blizzard was gone, but I have tried
twice to bring more cats to my small city house; once a small 6 month
old male, whom Kenzie constantly beat up. Later, a pair of kittens which
I think Kenzie was trying her level best to get rid of.

Sigh.

So I have one approximately 10 year old cat who is not a real snuggler,
but who is very, very sweet, and good tempered, and apparently very
happy, now that she is alone.

She doesn't seem to mind that I'm gone 12 hours a day at work; I'm sure
she just sleeps a lot.

On the weekends, she likes to be near me, and often asks for attention.

She's curled up about 3 feet from me as I type this, and when I called
her name, she started purring immediately.

So I know that some cats can be very happy as an only cat.

Many years from now, when it's Kenzie's turn to go to the Bridge, I will
get a pair of cats, or kittens; preferably litter mates.

But that's a long way off, I hope, and for now I'm happy with my one
special calico cat.

That`s right, there are cats who don`t want cat company.
But most cats welcome a friend to keep them company.
People just have to find out.
I think my Moritz maybe would be happier as a single cat.
He is the boss here, but uses that in a very undemonstrative manner.
He just is the boss.<g> He doesn`t has to prove it. He is very
self-contained and a bit distant towards the other cats. They respect
him.

I wish you a very long, happy time with your beloved Kenzie.

Welcome   I am owned  currently by  5  cats and one  Hemmingway kitten
Lightwell - 07 Sep 2006 18:53 GMT
Hi Matthew,

thanks for the friendly welcome.

Again, 5 cats is a lot. It is hard to stay in charge with so many
strong characters around.
And I find it hard to get something out of the fridge for me.
Usually I end up feeding the cats, close the fridgedoor and remember
that initally I was hungry and wanted to get something.<sigh>

It`s a hard life owning cats.<g> I love it though.

And I laugh a lot reading the posts in this group.
So I decided to share my hard life with the other slaves.

A Hemmingway cat  is a knick name for cats with 6 toes on one or more of
their feet,  They are named after the writer who has a house in the Florida
keys where nothing but  6 toes cats live that are  original descendants of
his own cats I believe from 1893

Hey that`s really new to me.
Never heard of cats with 6 toes.
Just read bit on the Internet about them.

And he protected his cats by (or through?) his will.

That`s interesting. I am also interested in ancient cultures and
spiritual
ways. I learned that there`s not much knowledge left about the druids.
I have read Douglas Monroes "21 Lessons of Merlyn" which is fictional,
but
nonetheless works with informations from a real book from the 16th
century,
"The Book of the Pheryllt" which was restored.

I have always been interested in metaphysics.
I like the druid-order a lot. I believe their working techniques and
spiritual ground to be very effective, and, as I feel very close to
nature
and to the UK they are one of my favourites.

furry masters - Her Royal Highness Cleopatra Silvercat, Amelia T Cat,
Samuel Redcat, Tabitha Fluffytail, Harri Roadcat, and Ranger Greykitten.

> But because I have no change to get some leftovers.<gg>

I'm familiar with that situation too! Tabitha, Amelia, and Harri all
insist on sampling all people food they see.

I'll describe my clowder for you.

Cleo was rescued from the local animal shelter several years ago. She is a
beautiful, fluffy silver-coated longhair, more than 10 years old, weighing
about 6 pounds. She rules the house.

Amelia is a shorthaired tortoiseshell, and is rather large. Our nickname
for her is "Hoover Girl", as once the other kitties are through with their
breakfast dishes Amelia vacuums out any remaining crumbs. She has been
with us for about 5 years, and is just over 5 years old. She was adopted
from a cat welfare agency.

Tabitha is a small fluffy black longhair. She looks like a Persian. She is
very quiet and shy, but insists on sharing all people food that is eaten
in her presence. She is about 3 years old. My wife rescued her from
neighbors of my brother who were moving and were unable to take their
kittens with them.

Samuel is a long, lean orange tabby. He is the gentlest kitty I have ever
known. He insists on climbing up on my chest when I go to bed and kneading
on me. He is just a month or so younger than Tabitha. He was abandoned in
the parking lot of a grocery warehouse where I was working.

Harri Roadcat adopted a family in eastern Illinois (US midwest), but the
other cats living in the house didn't get along with her at all. The
Illinois family reluctantly decided that they needed to find a new home
for Harri. I was driving a semitruck (what the Brit's call a "lorry", I
guess) at the time. I managed to get routed through Illinois, and I
adopted Harri. Harri rode in the big truck with me all over the US. That's
how she got "Roadcat" appended to her name. She is about 2 years old, and
is a small kitty. She is a red tabby.

Ranger was adopted by my wife while I was out on the road. He's just over
a year old, and is a lovely grey shorthair with a little white spot on hsi
chest. I think he looks like a Russian Grey (Marina, he looks a lot like
Miranda). He is pure kitten! If there is a window screen to be climbed or
a box to be destroyed, Ranger will take care of it.
Lightwell - 07 Sep 2006 22:58 GMT
Hi Dan,

thanks for explaining your clowder
(have still to look that one up, must mean "gang", "pack" or so).

What a sweet gang.

What about Harri`s trucking trip with you? I imagine him sitting next
to you
throughout the US. Was he allowed to take the seat? Or had he to stay
in the
cat`s basket?

Some day I will tell the story of our relocation in germany. I had 6
cats in
my car, without cat baskets. It was a tour of 13 hours on german
highways -
where the crazy wannabe-racers are loose.<g>

What`s the difference between a red tabby and an orange tabby?

Exactly. A clowder is just a collection of cats.

Harri got to ride just about anywhere she wanted to :) (BTW, Harri is
short for Harriet. Confusing, I know). She rode a lot on the
dashboard, sometimes on the passenger seat, and often in the overhead
cabinet in the cab.

None. I just sometimes get careless and switch terms.

That exactly was the picture I pictured.<g>
Must have been a lot of fun for both of you.
And it was the best case szenario, as some other cats
cant`t cope with driving in a car.

I think they all think they own the sofa ;-)  I managed to catch 7 of
them one time all asleep on it!

Internet is a weird story.  He's a sweet little guy, and I was trying
to figure out a name for him.  I like to try out names, and see if
they respond, so the cat actually likes his or her name.  I have a
book of cat names, and tried hundreds.  Nothing.  Then I was watching
"The X-Files" one night, and tried "Mulder" and "Scully".  Nothing.
Thinking about the big fan following of the show on the Internet, for
a joke I said "Internet".  And he meowed!  I tried it several more
times, and he reponded each time.  I thought "You crazy cat, Internet
is the weirdest name I've ever heard for a cat, but okay, if that's
your name, that's your name!"

Just yesterday I was picking up food at the vet's, and they told me
they had a client named "E-Bay".  lol!

Guten tag und wilkommen, Bettina.

And that is most of the German I remember from my college German
courses 20+ years ago. =o)  In any language, another cat lover is
always welcome. A nice old  farmhouse sounds like the ideal atmosphere
for your cats, as you appear to have quite a family of them.

My somewhat smaller family consists of Francesca, a brown tabby female
who is almost three years old, and her now adult kitten, Nina who is
also a brown tabby although she has white on her face, chest and tummy
and four white paws.
I look forward to hearing more about your cats.

Oh, and so far, I think your English is very good, but we're a friendly
lot, so don't worry about occasional confusion. =o)

Oh, Dankeschön Melissa.

I thought so too, when I bought that house, which is located at the
edge of
a really tiny village (appr. 230 people there), but then found out,
that
every road, even small countryside roads can be used for racing. And
that
everywhere are 18-to 60 year old idiots who are not willing to drive
the
allowed tempo. So I lost in 7 years almost every year a cat. And if it
wasn`t one of mine, it was one of my neighbours which I love too.
So I am planning to move the next years. And my next house will be far
away
from every road. For sure.

Thank you, and I am looking forward to the occasional confusions as the
people here really are a friendly lot. Might be funny.

All the best to you and Francesca and Nina.

Hi Adrian,

"GOD", I thought, they send me to read the FFAQ, especially the
Jargon-section.I`ve been warned, reading for years that the
usegroup-people
are somewhat peculiar and strict and like to flame and fuss about
things.<g>

But, wanting to be a part of it I, who never read Faq`s about
Netiquette
because I am online since 1994, first Compuserve then Internet, I know
Netiquette - I went like a good child to read the FAQ.<bg>

Being a very good child I started with the beginning, not hopping to
6.3
Jargon. And what I found, I have to say, drove me to tears. Expecting
the
worst (i.e. regulations to the max; exact "how to`s" and stuff like
that), I
found the best - unbelievable. People who actually behave like friends.

And who loosen up all the regulations which make the usenet sometimes

Hallo, Bettina!

I am owned by three cats: Chloe and Tyrone, brother and sister who were born
in our shed 2 years ago and Puakea Makana (Pua) who showed up at my door 1
year ago, sick, skinny and really just gross.  I nursed Pua back to health.
They all have such different personalities and they make my house a home.  I
couldn't do without any of them.

Hi Kili,

now I would guess that you are living in Hawai?
Puakea Makana -I love that sound.

Yes, it is wonderful how different every cat`s personalitiy is from the
others.

And all are very special ones. Like it is with humans.
I don`t understand people who doesn`t see that. How blind can one be?

> They all have such different personalities and they make my house a home.

Same with me here - they make my house a home.
It started out rather normal - one cat rescued, got another cat to keep
the first
one company. They got 4 kittens, as I wanted Luzie to run the
biological program
once. Found out I am not able to give the kitten away. Ended up with 6
cats,
needed to find a house with garden. <g>

If it wouldn`t have been for my cats best I still would live in an
apartement.
I wouldn`t have dared to let my dream of a little house come true. So
they helped me
to live one of my dreams.

bye for now

Not yet.<g> I have of course lots of pictures but never succeeded in
putting up a
website, as it made no sense to me, as I hadn`t people I wanted to show
them to.

I am peculiar with pictures of my loved ones. I would only show them to
people who
really are interested and are kindhearted.

So many people surf the web. No sense in showing them the inside of my
heart.<g>
But - here I found people who understand how deep love can be.
God, am I really writing that.<ggg> Maybe I need prescription.
On the other hand it`s a full moon night and I answered all day to kind
welcomes.

Anyway - in a few weeks I will have a nice website with photos.

Hallo, Bettina

Welcome to the group.  I live in England and have two cats.  Kitty Farmcat
aged around 20 and Boyfriend who is about 4.
My dearest friend is German, she lives in Lower Saxony - between Luechow and
Dannenberg, also a rural agricultural area with no work.

I met her on a poultry internet group.  She's been to visit me several times
and I've been to visit her.  We correspond by e-mail all the time.

It's nice to see another German on the group, we have Inge too.
It's an English-language-orientated group so it's not always easy for others
to join in.  A lot of the posters are American.  Some Brits, some
Australians, some New Zealand, Finnish. Swedish.  It's a nice group, you
will be happy here.

Hello Tweed,

thank you for your kind words.
Thats funny, that you met your german friend in a poultry forum,
cause it could have been me. I have, at the moment, 4 white ducks and 6
little yellow ones -how do you call babyducks-?
The number varies because of some nasty fox who steals one to two ducks
a year.<sigh>

I`ve visited Great Britain twice. It is a beautiful country. I had a
friend there who used to live in Letchworth and worked in Cambridge. He
showed me around a bit. So I came to see even a bit of Wales in the
summer of 1996.

I had a great day today - answering all the messages I got from
cat-lovers.
Have never before spoken that much about my sweet ones.

>> It's a nice group, you will be happy here.

I think you are right. How wonderful.

kind regards

Ducklings.

I get foxes here too :-(   and have lost a lot of hens/ducks over the years.
I don't keep ducks now - I think foxes like to eat ducks best of all and
they will visit often if you have ducks.
Now you are confident posting on an English-speaking group you may like to
look at sci.agriculture.poultry.  Nüle still posts there occasionally.  She
would be delighted if another German joined the group!

Letchworth and Cambridge are south of where I live, 200 km away, maybe.
Wales is the same in a north-easterly direction.  I really like Wales, I've
had some nice holidays there.

It's the nicest group I've ever known.  The poultry group is quite nice, but
this group is far and away ahead of it.
What other group would send me messages of hope and almost cover me with
"get well" cards and flowers when I was very ill and in hospital last year?
None that I know of.
These are very special people.  They are more caring than my own family!

Well, I have been as well in Worlaby, Brigg where the mother of my
friend
used to live. I remember driving about 2 hours north. Could have been
your
area.

Now, I hope everything is fine again. Yes, the people here took me up
very
kindly. And, the same here, it always seems to be hard to cope with
family.

That's about 300 km NE of where Tweed lives and about 100 km south of me.

Pat - 08 Sep 2006 02:35 GMT
Hi Bettina,

Welcome to RPCA. Many of us have large-ish clowders and I am one of them. I
will describe them a little, in order of their age (oldest first).

Baby Eyes - Grey longhaired girl, age 6+, she was an orphan, hand-raised by
my former neighbor. She is a little bit crazy in strange ways.  You never
know what's going to startle her and make her jump. Sometimes just seeing a
wadded sock on the floor will do it. She likes to mother all the other cats.
She is prone to allergies and sometimes gets crusty scabs and pulls out her
own fur in spots.

Tommy - Large male mackerel tabby, very sweet and even-tempered, 5+ years
old. An absolutely wonderful cat.

Eli - Very big, solid-black, short hair, wants to be the Alpha cat and tries
to dominate everyone else, but he's a mama's boy!

Abelard - 4+ years old ruddy Abyssinian, blind in one eye, rescued from
breeder who could not sell him. He's a very special little guy, half the
size of Tommy and Eli, and seems to have a somewhat delicate constitution.

Billy & Lily, brother and sister rescued as kittens when they were dumped at
Sherry's farm in Oklahoma. They look like Maine Coons and probably are at
least partly that breed. Billy is enormous, Lily is bigger than average for
a girl. They are both very fluffy, smokey gray and white stripey things,
Lily has a bit of brown as well. They are very happy, playful cats and have
had no health issues aside from occasion fur matts. They're now 2+ years
old.

Beatrice: "Creamsickle" colored longhair, rescued from a cattle ranch
overrun with cats and dogs, she was in grave danger there. She came to me at
a tender age, maybe 5-6 weeks. That was about 16 months ago. Now she is very
large. She won the hearts of all the other cats very quickly, and mine too.
If you only look at her, she talks and comes running to you.

If you go on http://groups.google.com and find rec.pets.cats.anecdotes and
search for any of the above kitty names, also with Pat, photo, photos, pics,
jpg, you will find lots of links to pictures of the kitties I have posted
here and there. I don't have a list of them all at the moment. There are too
many out there, and yet not enough....

Can't wait to see your kitty pics!

Hello Bettina!

I'm liz aka meee

I am the abject and devoted slave (I have to say this or They Will Get
me.....) of Jasmine, Congo, Moe, Garfield, Mango and Cougar.

Jasmine wandered into our yard one day and tried to eat our parrot. She was
thin as a rake, and bruised and battered, so we think she was dumped or took
off from a bad home. She subsequently had kittens, Moe, Congo, Garfield and
Miss Violet. Miss Violet found a lovely home, and the boys are all with us.
They are all very sweet and loving, and love cuddles, however think they are
all still kittens so get the zoomies a lot. Jasmine is now happily retiring
and getting fat, and keeping the whole household of cats in line. They are
all orange tabbies, and as well as them I have two Siamese, a red point boy
named Mango, and a Chocolate Tortie named Cougher. Mango is my sweetie, and
refuses to speak to any other human, but is best mates with Garfield and
Congo, and Cougar is the 'family cat' now; she was very shy when she came to
us and didn't like kids, but now she's getting used to them. Oh, and we'd
loove to see pics of your furry friends.

Hello meee,

nice to meet you.
Please explain to me about your parrot. Up to now I have been thinking,
that cats would know about the dangers of attacking a parrot. (Beak and
so) And was he sitting outside the cage or not? And, how close did she
get?<g>
Wow, now you have a lot of cats too.<g>

Pics will come up soon, promised.

Oh, the parrot is an Australian native (sorry, forgot to mention that I live
in Australia, North Queensland actually) he's a Crimson Rosella so not as
big as a macaw. There are some pictures of him here, and of the other cats
too. (all the cats on this website are ours...)
http://pacificsiamese.bravehost.com/gangoforange.html

She was very hungry when she tried to catch him, poor baby. And he was
inside the cage, but she was trying to get her paw through the bars and get
him.
Lightwell - 08 Sep 2006 14:49 GMT
Hi Pat,

thank you for describing your lot to me.
I found the pictures and they are adorable.

It is so good to see that again cats have been rescued
from places they were not happy.

I am sure now they all are totally spoiled and happy.<g>

I will set up my cats picture page soon.
