Last night I came in from work and to the Fabulous Furballs this means
just one thing- FOOD! The pair of them can go from comatose to high
speed in a nanosecond through they'll never come close to Fugazi (RB)
who was known to be able to run for the kitchen and commence eating and
only wake up by the third mouthful.
So there I am in our narrow kitchen, listening to the chorus that
suggests they haven't seen food for a month and I reached for the
kibble bag, dodging Sarsi who takes this moment to weave around under
my feet and also went to turn the microwave on- cats first then
Hoomins. Alas as I did that I knocked the lid off the steamer and had
to dive for it because if it goes down the side of the cooker it's a
job to get it out.
Of course this action causes a largish quanitity of kibble to fly out
of the bag and go all over the floor.
The Furballs looked at each other and I could almost read their
thoughts "We're not supposed to have that much food, she'll put it
back. QUICK!!"
I got the impression that a swarm of pirahna's had invaded my
kitchen!!! They went mad for it, diving about the place, foraging for
their dinner. I think they enjoyed hunting down the kibble rather than
having it all in one place
My kitchen floor looks cleaner as well...must be kitty dribbles

LOL! I know that scenario. My kitchen is very narrow, and if I've been
away for the day, a shark feeding frenzy comes to mind. They act like
they're starving, and they're definitely not. Do you notice the shark
activity is much more intense when the weather first turns cold? It's
the darndest thing. I think that somewhere in their little brains, they
think they must store fat for the winter or something.

Maybe that's why Amelia is so "fluffy" - she's been storing up fat for the
winter. If so, then she ought to be set for the next dozen ice ages.

I'd believe that. Oscar seems to eat more in the winter.

It's like when there's an accident involving currency, and cash is
floating and landing all over the street. :)

I'm fostering 4 kittens right now and have 4 adult cats of my own. I'd
just been to PetCo and picked up 2 bags of kitten crunchies. I fed my
big kitties and left one bag of kitten food on the counter while I went
upstairs to feed the kittens. Of my 4 cats, three would totally leave
the bag alone unless they were starving....I forgot about Sabrina.
She is over 3 years now, but still gets into EVERYTHING. I came back
down to the kitchen and there is an open bag of kitten food with
a huge gapping hole and kitten food all over. Sabrina strikes again!
She couldn't have been hungry, having just eaten. I think it was
the deliciousness of the Ilegal Kibble.

I found out the hard way, with Captain and Stanley the Mighty Hunters,
that cats can and will rip open a cat food bag. I've NEVER had cats before
that would disembowel a bag of cat food before.
I had to open a bag of cat food yesterday, one that was somewhat larger
than our usual bags. I can't completely empty it into the plastic food
containers that we have, because there's still cat food left in the bag
after the containers are full.
The good news is, an effective way to protect a not-yet-emptied bag of cat
food crossed my mind. I locked it in one of the cat carriers! That's one
cat food bag that NOBODY'S going to be ripping a hole into! :o)
Donna
Meowmy takes all the fun out of hunting wild cat kibble! No fair!
Captain and Stanley.

That's a great idea! I usually put things to store in the microwave
or fridge because Sabrina hasn't figured out how to open those. She
can, and does, open the cabinets above and below the counters.

LMAO at this thread....my boys are nuts about D*g food....maybe it's the
thrill of annoying the dogs or something, but they rip open the bag if I
leave it out...and it's tougher platic than the cat food bags!

Hey, weese kats are mighty hunters. We hunts the d-thing's food a lot.
Speedy don't like it, but tough. Speedy's kibble is tough, but wild and
weese not allowed in the garrage where the mean hoomins hide the cat foods.
They leave the gooshy food out but I haven't figured out how to open it yet.
Qui Gun Kit who really LIKES the gooshy foods

Here's something that makes me think Caliban may not be the sharpest
pencil. He and Miranda are well able to open the cabinet under the sink.
They used to open it frequently and drag out the rolls of kitchen paper
that I stored there. Now I have a baby lock on that cabinet door.
I store Caliban's kibble (he only gets a few pieces as a treat every
evening) in another cabinet that has the exactly same door, that Caliban
could easily open if he wanted to. But he doesn't. He knows what's in
there, because every time I open that cabinet, he comes running and
dives into it to snatch a bit of kibble from the open bag. But he
doesn't open it himself. I truly hope he never figures this one out. ;o)

Great idea! And the carrier will smell good when you have to use it
for its more conventional purpose.

I'm like that with coffee. :) I can picture your kitties chowing down
on the floor. You must've been happy that you didn't need to clean up
the mess.

With me it's fruit juice- not alive until I get some- have many times
woken up holding the carton and having no memory of how I got there but
knowing I must have 'cos I have my glasses on. (I'm so short sighted
that the first thing I do is put my specs on and the last thing I do at
night is take them off- without them I once started stroking one of
Dave's shoes thinking it was a Furball)

I'd bet on it. I have a little jar of cat treats, "catviar", whole
pieces of which are smaller than Iams/Eukanuba barrel-shaped kibble.
I'll sit in the dining room and chuck them into the living room,
foyer, or hallway and watch 4 cats go berserk. too much fun. <G>
