What a trip! It was a great trip, don't get me wrong. But today was just
plain tiring. The bad news is my flight out of Houston-Hobby was delayed
for 2 hours due to bad weather in Atlanta. Yeah, I had to fly into Atlanta
and then back to Memphis to get the best fare. The good news is, the flight
from Atlanta to Memphis was booked solid so they held over the plane in
Atlanta. I was spared the necessity of trying to find another flight or
(heaven forbid) having to spend the night in Atlanta and fly home on
Wednesday.
I talked with the folks at Persia's vet this morning. All the other boarded
kitties went home Monday morning, so she had the run of the cat room. They
left her crate door open and just let her roam around in there all day and
night and play as she wished. She got up on top of the crates so she could
see out the window and meowed at people as they walked by. Several people
went in and played with her. I was also told Peaches has been chirping up a
storm. I'll go pick them up in the morning. I can't wait to hug Persia
again. I know she'll be mad at me for a while but it couldn't be helped.
This is how I'm earning an income for the time being.
The art show in Highland, IL went pretty well but not as well as we'd hoped.
John didn't read the material very well; he didn't realize until I pointed
out to him this is the first year for them holding a fine arts show. He did
win 1st place for oil/acrylics painting which net him a nice monetary prize.
And that same day he did sell one painting, almost at the last minute before
we had to start taking everything down and packing up.
From there we drove to Kingwood, TX, just north of Houston. We took our
time about it; made the 840 mile drive in 4 days. We stopped at some rather
interesting motels along the way. I can't drive his huge truck so we had to
stop when he got tired (generally 200+ miles down the road). We got into
Kingwood on Thursday, fairly early in the afternoon. Checked out where we
were going to be setting up for the show, had some lunch, then found a nice
hotel, checked in and were just happy to be off the road for a few days.
These shows usually provide a list of hotels/motels where they will give a
discounted rate to the exhibitors. Because we were going to be staying 5
days rather than 2 or 3, he got them *way* down on the rate ($59.00 a night)
in a suite with a sitting area; a table where we could sit and play cards; a
mini fridge, microwave and kingsize bed. It was hotter than Hades so we
even made use of the outdoor pool while we were there. I was the one who
noticed the sign on the door saying the "in season" rate is $299.00. Good
lord! (And what exactly would be "in season" in the greater metropolitan
Houston area?)
This show looked like it was going to be a bust; nothing on Saturday except
comments like "Nice work and gosh it's hot". He did sell one my favourite
paintings on Sunday, thank goodness. That made the show. They weren't
doing prizes.
I'm glad to be back home, although I miss John already. He tried to call me
to make sure I got home okay but he didn't know about the delayed flights
and I couldn't reach him on his rather troublesome cell phone (bump it just
right and it turns itself off!)
I'll be happy to pick up Persia and Peaches in the morning. I miss my
lovely grey kitty and I miss hearing Peaches' happy chirping.
Purrs to all who need them. No way I can catch up on all the posts.

Welcome back. Sounds like a good trip, even with the flight delay. I
understand that you won't feel like you're really home until the furry
and feathered ones are there with you. How's John's health doing?
Sorry, I can't remember what his problem was, but I remember his
having to have tests done, but can't remember the results - prpbably
an indication that it's time to turn off the computer and go to bed.

John has diverticulitis. He was hospitalized last spring and treated with
antibiotics and he has to watch everything he eats (no seeds, popcorn, nuts,
corn, etc.). Now it appears they want to go ahead and do surgery as it
continues to give him trouble.
He's had a rough year. Quintuple bypass surgery at the end of January, then
two hospitalizations for the 'tic (as we call it). Thanks for asking.

Yay!!! My Persia's coming Home!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
<MAJOR kitty happy dancing ensues>
{note from Weeble's Meowmy: Have you all seen the Kibbles-n-Bits
commercials where the dog, with the help of computer graphics, dances better
than John Travolta in the movie Saturday Night Fever? Well, now imagine a
sleek back kitty doing the same, with joy in his big yellow eyes and a few
extra backflips, somersaults and leaps thrown in (purring all the while),
just because he can, and you have Weeble's Happy-Kitty Dance!}

Awwww! Persia IS home :) And she's not mad at me, either! Weebles, you
are just now getting the "read receipts" because even though I read your
notes to Persia (I know, I'm snooping) while I was out of town, the Internet
access doesn't send receipts.
Rest assured once she gets settled in, Persia will be writing to you about
her adventures.

Jill, I'm so sorry I missed you - I'm assuming that was your call on my cell
again but it was an unregistered number and I couldn't call back. We may
not have been able to arrange a meeting in any case since I've been run
ragged at work lately, but I *SO* wanted to meet you.
I'm glad you made it home safely.
Hugs,

Darn! I completely forgot I have the thing set up to hide my number. I
should have turned that setting off when I called. Oh well, maybe next
year!
