My cats are now hunting in a pack with co-operative hunting! *SOMEHOW*
Lily, Tiger and Robbie managed to kill a SEAGULL today and drag it
through the catflap! They are BIG, aggressive birds.

I heard a right ruckus, and saw the 3 of them on the garage roof all
battling & wrestling with the seagull. By the time I got out into the
garden to try and break it up, the seagull was dead, and the cats were
looking VERY smug.

I left them to it, as they were on the garage roof and about 15 minutes
later I caught all 3 of them trying to get the dead bird through the
catflap. There was a lot of growling, a lot of them telling me what mean
and nasty hunters they were, and they were all very proud.

I am still utterly GOBSMACKED.

Very impressive!

Someone in my neighbourhood came home to find a still-alive seagull
perched on her bedroom bureau. She assumed it had been dragged in
through the cat door by her cat, and then escaped. Clearly, your
experience shows cats need to team up to handle seagulls!

It's probably a good thing you don't have gannets nearby. Or do you?
Now, *that's* am impressive seagull!

I live about three miles from a gannet nesting colony, as you say,
impressive birds.

Gulls are hardcore.  Though Smokey says they're tasty...

Congratualtions!

A seagull as a trophy is very much a thing to be proud of. Please keep up
the good work.

Yeah, they're much larger than pigeons, and equally
indiscriminate in annointing whatever is below them, aren't
they?

Oh my. So would I be. And here was I telling Miranda to dream on when I
saw her stalking a gull on the island. I hope she doesn't enlist Caliban
to help her.

OH MY GOD! A seagull??????? Be very afraid. Well, man, you sure don't
need any guarddogs.

I don't like the idea of the cats going after those big birds.  The big
birds often go for the eyes!  Indoor cats don't tangle with gulls.   MLB

Nor do my indoor/outdoor cats normally. Having looked at the gull at
length, it appears that it had a broken wing due to air pellet shot -
hence a target for the cats. Some little sh.t is shooting animals around
here. HRFL was a victim several weeks ago, and several other cats have
been injured too. The RSPCA and police aren't interested. "They have no
proof" although everyone knows who it is.

That's awful.  I hope that whoever it is will get caught.

I remember the year the boy next door got a BB gun for
Christmas.  Apparently unbeknownst to his parents, he used
to take pot-shots with it out of his bedroon window. I
didn't think much about it, until I took one of my cats to
the vet with what appeared to be a cyst under the skin of
one ear.  The vet removed a BB, and I had a talk with the
boy's parents!  (I think the gun was confiscated for a few
months, until he could demonstrate more responsible
behaviour with it.)

If you know who it is, see if you can set up a video camera somewhere
and catch them red-handed.  The police *will* pay attention to that....

That's not to say they wouldn't if they got the chance - and
with less hunting experience to protect them.

Oh, poor seagull! But that is too funny.

I can't believe they are hunting in a pack! Isn't Lily blind in one eye?
And she's still up on a roof attacking a big bird?

Cats are pretty amazing.

Both HRFL Tiger *and* Lily only have one eye. They are both missing the
right eye. That's probably what confused the seagull... they looked at
him oddly!

I too am gobsmacked, I wonder if the gull was sick, they're not exactly
small birds.

YIKES!  That's pretty impressive.  If I were you, I might start to watch my
back a little more closely and be really really really nice to them ;-)

Yikes!  Maybe they found the bird dead?   My cats would sometimes find
dead mice, and try to pass them off as killed by them.

Hahaha cheaters!!

I am still, roughly twenty years later, trying to figure out what my
cats were up to one summer when I would walk into the (carpeted) living
room on a regular basis to find the remnants of a bird (no idea what
kind, it was so devoured), but with all its feathers arranged into a
sun mandala pattern with about a four foot radius.  I could never catch
them red-paweded, though, so to speak.  All the feathers were pointing
outward like rays, looking like the bird had set off a timb bomb in his
own stomache.  Each feather seemed to be carefully arranged and it
looked quite beautiful, in fact.  Been wishing ever since that I had a
camera that year, which I didn't.  They did it several times that
summer, I was a student spending only that summer in that house,  and
they never repeated it when we moved somewhere else.

Well, I'm pretty sure the culprit was only one of my two cats at the
time, she was the birder in the family. She could catch them in
midflight.  She must have been pretty damn proud of herself to go to
all that trouble with her trophy!
