Last night I had to call a plumber out to fix a problem. I figured that
everybody would hide when a stranger showed up at the door, but I got a
surprise. Amelia had been reclining on top of the bookcase beside the
front door, and when the plumber showed up she stayed there. She even
allowed him to scratch her head as he passed.
Once he got to work he had found that he had all the help he needed -
Ranger was right there offering to lend all four paws. He helped take the
faucets apart, disassemble the broken stuff, etc. And when the work was
all done, Ranger helped the plumber fill out the invoice. Turns out the
plumber has a kitty that looks just like Ranger.
Cleopatra of course spent the whole evening on her throne (aka our bed).
I wouldn't be so crass as to suggest that Tabitha, Sammy, and Harri were
chickens. I'm sure there was a massive greebling invasion going on in the
back yard, and that's why they were too busy to come in the house and
watch over the intruder.

Shamrock loves strangers coming in the house, and he supervises.
Or, I should say, USE to supervise. He loved it when I had a
termite inspector come in and he chased the flashlight beam to the
amusement of the inspector. When the termite techs came in to do
the drilling, Shadow (RB) stayed in my bedroom, but Shamrock stayed
in the living room. I told the techs to keep the downstairs door
shut, but they were in and out the front door a lot, and one time
they didn't let the storm door latch, and he got out. "Shamrock's
big adventure" in the google archives, was the subject line. Ever
since then, whenever someone has to come in, all kitties are herded
into my bedroom.
The worst was just recently when I had a new washer and dryer
delivered, and I had a really hard time getting Rhett in my room.
He HATES strangers, so he hid behind the couch and freaked out when
I tried to catch him to put him in the room.
