It is almost September 1 which means I should be working on the holiday
card list if you would like for me to do it again this year. I'm more
than willing to do it. I don't think there were any problems last year,
but if you'd rather someone else do it just let me know.

I think you did a fine job last year.  Thanks for volunteering again.

All right, I'll get started on it right away.  Well, I'll get started on it
next week since this weekend is holiday and we're going to be traveling.
Lacey has improved 90% from where she was just Saturday so I've decided I
can go with DH to Topeka, KS for a race.  When I get back I'll send out the
first call for addresses.

For those who are new to the group and unfamiliar with our ritual, each year
between December and January we exchange holiday cards with anyone who would
like to join.  Sometimes it extends several month past January.  We have two
lists:  The first list includes the names and addresses of everyone who
agrees to exchange cards.  Then we have a second list of those people who,
for various reasons, are unable to send cards this year but would love to
receive a card if you are so inclined. Actually there are three lists
because we have one list that includes families of members who have crossed
the bridge and we always add them to the list, there are one or two who are
not well enough to send cards so we include them on list as well. Sometimes
you try to get off the list but the "regulars" refuse to let that happen and
you end up on a short list of people you know well.

Cards are, for the most part, cat themed and many of them include things
inside. Things is the best way to describe some of the stuff that arrives.
You might get cat hair or kibbles.  Last year my cats got a great present
from someone who lurks - they got plastic tie wraps used to tie wire and
cords. They thought those were better than the ribbons on the gifts we gave
them.

This is great fun as I'm sure many of the regulars here will tell you and
explain in the next few weeks. Come on everyone lets tell stories of going
to the mailbox every day and finding envelopes and cards from all over the
world. Lets have a really great participation this year.

I'll use the list and email addresses I have from last year to send out the
initial call for addresses.  Anyone wanting to be added to the list that is
not already there, send me your mailing address as well as a valid email
address.  Anyone submitting an address that is not a regular on the list
will have to be approved by those people who have participated for a number
of years.  We do not want to share your addresses with trolls. I'll be very
careful with your addresses and who gets on the list. I'd like to shoot for
having a mostly final list by the 3rd Monday in November.

I've sent you my address info, but am not sure if you got it or if your
ISP is trained to bump all messages from gmail-accounts off to the spam
bin. I sent my msg on 13 Sept - last Wednesday.

You did great last year, Julie. I don't know if I'll be able to
participate this year, but I can certainly testify to how fun it's been
in the past. Coming home after a cr*ppy day at work and finding cards
from around the world - across the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Thailand
(no more, alas! Why'd you have to move, Britta? ;o)), Sweden... It
always cheered me up, and I kept them hanging on my wall into March.
Then I packed them away, read each card again and looked at the
pictures, and they are now in my cellar compartment, along with the
cards from all our previous card exchanges.

I'm sure that Sam would want to help.  Also, that tortie from
Petsmart. :)

LOL! Sam provides more than enough help, thank you very much, but just
in case Sam isn't doing the job right, Barnabus helps out.  I get the
laptop out and Sam jumps on my lap and Barnabus stretches out on the
right arm of my loveseat. Now I'm right-handed so this makes typing
difficult but also there isn't room for a laptop between the two cats.

Not that I'm complaining...well except when I have to clean the cat hair
from the screen. I don't even want to think about how much cat hair has
accumulated in the machine.

You did an excellent job last year.  Please include me in this years list.
Hopefully, I'll actually get my cards addressed and mailed this time.

I think I might want to try to do this thing this year. But first I'd
have to get my new address, which I'll get in a week to ten days. I'm
moving around the 23rd of this month.

You did a great job last year.  I may not able to participate this year as
my operation will be on November 22.  I don't know how I'll feel (6-8 weeks
recovery) and I won't be able to drive to the post box to send them anyway
in time to get to far flung places like America and Australia :-(

Yes, I know.  I was able to send last year but before that I was being
operated on for my eyes, time after time, and then the "c" thing.
Now a new problem that means I won't be sending cards this year, probably.
I'm sorry.  It's embarrassing for me to once again receive and not send.
Hopefully this will be my LAST operation.

But we LIKE to send you cards.  I may not be able to send this year either.

Pam S. hoping that Tweed and others who can't always send won't let it get
in the way.

I hope it's your last operation too, and everything goes very well
from here on out.

In the meantime, you HAVE to get cards this year. Aren't you the
person who said the people at the local post office and your mail
carrier said they were very impressed that you are so important to get
lots of mail from overseas?  You know you have that reputation to
protect!  >^.^<

My first year I was on here, I was depressed and unemployed and pumped
full of drugs by my doctors, and I didn't put my name on the card list
because I was embarrassed by how broke I was and the fact that my
upbringing raised me to never take anything I didn't "earn".

CatNipped kicked my a.s for it and I think I deserved it!  She said
friendship is being able to accept something offered out of affection
and not feel there is a "ledger" of "debts" involved, or something to
that effect.

So, I have no problem at all sending cards to those who cannot send to
me.  I get a big kick out of writing them--it's really a pleasure to
have someone to send to!

I saw the message from Julie that she'd do the list, but wasn't ready
for addresses yet.

Did the call for addresses go out, and I missed it? Because I've
moved, so I have to change my address too!
