Well the roomie moved the bulk of her stuff out today.  All her big
furniture items are now gone.  What is left can easily be taken in a
few carloads.

She's still welcome to stay here every now and then and in fact i told
her that she's gonna have to come by at least once a week cause the
cats are gonna miss her.

Before her friends showed up, Mischief and Mayhem were napping on the
roomie bed, which had been stripped of sheets.  They were saying "Don't
take away our bed!!!"

And I really didn't like having to disturb the queen from her royal
nap.

The cats were shut up in my room all while her friends and I moved all
the big stuff out.  Mayhem and Imp hid under the bed, while Mischief
just napped on my bed.  I would periodically open my door to put stuff
in there and she would just lift her head or turn an ear in my
direction.  "Oh, it's just you."

However, once the roomie left with most of her stuff, and i opened up
my room, one by one the cats came out and "WTF???"

"WHOA!!!!!!!!  Mayhem, Imp, come in here!! The bed is GONE!!!'

"What do you mean gone?"

"I mean it's GONE!!!  Look!!"

"OH NO!!!"

They've all taken turns exploring and sniffing what is left of the
roomie's stuff and they all seem a little confused.

But the roomie is coming back to spend the night tonight.

Oh and by the way, after cleaning out all the roomie's furniture and
under and around the couch, we've found:

Twelve, yes count em, TWELVE furry mousies
5 jingle balls
4 paper balls
one pile of dried cat vomit found after the roomie's bed was moved out.
ICK!

They are taking turns meatloafing in the roomie's old bedroom and
wondering why everything has been moved.

Eventually they're going to figure out that Mama Kristen isn't around
anymore.

*sigh*

That reminds me of how my first cat, Misty, reacted the day we moved out of
the house where both she and I grew up.

On the day when we moved, we were careful to prevent Misty from running
into any kind of trouble while the furniture and boxes were removed from
the house. To keep her from getting spooked, getting out of the house or
getting tripped over, she'd been closed in my bedroom while everything was
moved from the rest of the house. Then she was closed in the basement
while they emptied my bedroom.

I let her come up from the basement, and waited with her in the now-empty
house, while my parents and the movers got the furniture settled properly
into the new house (which was a few blocks away). The plan was that when
the new house was ready, THEN my dad would come back and pick up the cat
and me.

While we waited, poor Misty wandered, wide-eyed, from one room to the
next, sniffing the places where the furniture USED to be and meowing.

When my dad came and got us, and we brought Misty to the new house. she
immediately tracked down the bedroom that had my things in it, parked
herself under my bed, and refused to come out. We had to put the cat food
and litterbox in my bedroom, since it took her about four days to decide
to venture forth and explore the rest of the house.

Poor Misty. She was an indoor kitty and had NO idea that such a thing as
"moving to a new house" even existed. What a culture shock it was for her
at first!
