job purrs

I wouldn't usually ask, but I'm getting quite terrified about this job
interview I have tomorrow. Don't know why - when I think it through
logically I know that they wouldn't be wasting an hour talking to me if
they didn't think I might be who they need, and the worst that can
happen is they won't hire me. I'd really like to get out of my current
workplace though, and I think this one would really suit me. I think
it's even close enough to home that I could cycle to work. So could I
have a few purrs to settle my stomach and not say anything too
ridiculous at the interview please?

That's great news you have an interview, Helen :-)  Just stay relaxed
and keep in mind that you already have a job, so nothing bad will
happen.  Just take it easy, stay calm and think about your answers.
Don't babble, which is something that *I* tend to do!  LOL!  I'm sure
you can imagine...
Let us know how it went!

Thanks Britta. I think I'm just intimidated because the interview's with
a very well known organisation. At least I'm (coincidentally) on a
week's leave from my job right now. Aarrgh, I'm off to throw up again.

Many purrs, Helen.

I don't have any helpful advice. I hate interviews myself. During my last
period of unemployment, I forced myself to go to any interview on offer,
and told myself that each one was 'practice', so it didn't matter if I
didn't do well - I thought that would make me less nervous. I also
mentally rehearsed questions I thought I might get asked as well, and made
sure I knew the exact location, checking it out a day or so in advance if
I was at all uncertain, in case I got lost on the day.

I did something similar while looking for a job.  The multiple
interviews really did help prep me for the interview that landed me my
current job.

Purrs that your interview goes wonderfully well.  Purrs for a peaceful
sleep tonight so you will wake up bright eyed and smiling.   MLB

Best of luck Helen.  I don't have any good advice because, as you
describe, I get terribly nervous and queasy before interviews.  I
haven't managed to find a way of preventing it; I just have to endure
it. Adrenalin is a pernicious thing!

Good luck Helen.

With my first interview I was so nervous I though I was going to cry in
the middle of it! If you can stay calm that would be great. The fact
that you already have a job may be able to take away some of the
nervousness. If really nervous have some answers prepared for any
obvious questions. Actually I find the question "tell me about
yourself" to be the worst. My answers are usually cheesy and insincere.
I'd love to say something like, "Well I like animals, reading and
sunsets. My star sign is Libra and I need this job so that I can
provide my cats with a better lifestyle... "

Job purrs being sent.

So could I

Many purrs.

Have you thought about possible answers to questions they might ask?
If you know you are prepared, you will feel better.  Make sure you know
your skills and abilities and have practiced "Selling yourself" to
emphasize what you can offer to them.

Make sure you have done research on the company so you are able to tell
them what you know and ask questions that AREN't things you can find
out on their company web site.

Make sure you have 2 or 3 questions in mind to ask them when they ask
if there is anythign more you would like to know (ie, is the company
growing, what will a typical day on the job be like, what is the
biggest challenge of this position etc)

Don't forget to ask for their business card so you can send them a
thank you letter afterwards.

Good luck and have fun.  I think interviews are fun.  Or at least, it
helps to think interviews are fun.

Interview purrs on the way.  I know and understand your fear!  Interviews
are no fun!  It's like being sent to the principal's office when you're a
little kid.

Sending purrs! Remember that appearing confident will go a long way! And ask
them lots of questions. The last interview I went for I felt 90% certain I
wouldn't get it (Internal within the same company, and I knew about 4 other
applications, three of which were vastly more experienced than me) so I went
in just for the interview and was totally comfortable because I had no
expectations. And I got the job!

I've had a few interviews in the 10 months or so, and this is my second week
in my new job. I was unhappy in my old job but the people I worked with were
great so the decision to leave was quite difficult. Ultimately I had to step
outside my comfort zone! The new job is very challenging and I'm learning
lots, I'm glad that a good opportunity finally came my way. And I'm sure one
will come yours soon! Good luck and let us know how you go.

Calming and confidence-building purrs.  You'll do great!

Great calming technique: breathe in through the nose as deeply as you
can, then breathe out the same way (can be out through the mouth).  Do
this at least five times.  Think about your breath, and only your
breath.  Focus on your chest expanding and finding more places to
expand -- your belly, your shoulderblades, your middle and lower back.

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts. I managed to survive the
interview - from my end I don't think I did wonderfully but not too
terribly either. The technical questions were mostly easier than I had
expected and there was only one I really couldn't answer, and I was able
to say so rather than try and bulls*** my way through. They said they'd
decide by the end of the week. So, I think the purrs definitely helped
me get through the interview. Thanks again!

Glad to hear that it went reasonably well, Helen.  It sounds like it
went rather more than reasonably well actually.  Being able to answer
all the questions except one is really good!
I hope you get it, it sounds like a great opportunity.  Let us know what
happens :-)

Thanks Britta.
I quite hope I get it too, but I'm not going to pin my hopes on it,
having come in second so many times during the last couple of years. I
might be a bit much of a goofball for them. The place seemed to have a
good feel though.
