Some friends of mine had to have their 19-year-old silver tabby,
Princess, put to sleep yesterday. She was the only cat I have ever
met who had been trained to roll over, play dead, and shake hands. My
friend Rhea works only part-time due to medical problems, so he had
time to spare to train his cat. Each time she did one of the tricks
on command, she would be given a kitty treat.

Sleep well, little Princess! MLB

Condolences to your friend and her family, and to you. :o(
19 is an impressive age, though it always feels like they've gone too
soon, regardless of their age.
Purrs and prayers that the people who love Princess will soon be able to
smile at her memory more readily than they weep for her loss.
Donna, Captain, and Stanley, thinking that Princess is making quite an
impression at the RB, showing what a clever kitty she is.

It's always very sad when a kitty goes to the Bridge, but it sounds like
Princess has an exceptionally full life, with a lot of time with her
slave, and a long life as well.
All this just make it that much harder on Rhea, of course :-(
Princess sounds like a very special kitty. (But aren't they all?).
Many purrs going out for Rhea's grieving heart.
Princess will meet (far too many....) RPCA RB kitties, of course, who
will make her welcome.

Purrs for your friends family. What a good long life though. It sounds
like a happy one too with lots of companionship. She sounds very
special.

I'm so sorry, John. She sounds like a well-loved kitty. I know exactly
how it is with your friend Rhea. Cats are the most wonderful companions
when you have to stay home a lot. Purrs for her, she will miss her
kitty terribly.

I'm sorry to hear that. You friends will miss her.

Feather was named Princess until I realized that we had nabbed the
wrong kitten and had the male. She sounds like a wonderful buddy and it
sounds like you, as well as her primary slave, will miss her. She is
either off to the Rainbow Bridge or on some adventure that none of us
can imagine.

I will light a candle for Princess to light her way. I am very impressed if
any cat can be trained to do anything that isn't an advantage to them.
Whilst KFC has learnt in not much more than a day that she now has to go
upstairs to be fed her yummy renal diet, normally both my cats do exactly
what they want to do, exactly when they want to do it.

I suspect that, had he not been giving Princess a kitty treat every
time she did a trick, she wouldn't have done so. A dog will
frequently do tricks in return for praise from its pack master; a cat
looks for more material rewards.

I found it very difficult to adjust to having cats after being a lifetime
dog owner. I kept comparing their behaviour to that of dogs, and kept
thinking they were very naughty when they would not stop doing something I
didn't want them to do (like getting on the dining table and meatloafing
there.)
No matter how many times I told them to get down, they continued to do it. I
was confused because my dogs would never have done something twice that was
not approved of.
Thanks to this group, I am beginning to understand my cats at last.

I'm so sorry for your friends' loss. She sounds like she was an
amazing cat. Purrs for her gentle journey to The Bridge and for your
