I have a hanging mousie on an elastic string that attaches to one of my
door frames. Imp and Mischief batted it at first but now ignore it
but Mayhem LOVES it. She'll just be walking by and it will brush her
side so she'll immediately attack it to show it who's boss.
When she first had the run of the apartment, one night as I was trying
to sleep, i suddenly hear a muffled "mrowffmrowffmorwffmorwff!"
I turn on the light and Mayhem is sitting in the doorway and the mousie
is swinging next to her. What was going on? Oh nothing, Mommy, i was
just sitting here, honest
Periodically over the last year, i've figured out that she manages to
catch it in her mouth and then vocally proclaims her victory, while
still holding the mouse in her mouth.
Unfortunately almost every time I'll hear those muffled cries I'm
either in the next room, or it's at night when the lights are off. And
every time i try to catch her at it I can't get there in time.
Until today. I'm at my desk when I hear the door mousie knocking
against my bedroom door. Suddenly I hear her muffled cries of victory.
"mrowffmrowffmrowff"
And INTO the living room doorway walks Mayhem, with the door mousie in
her mouth. She's still meowing while holding it and the elastic string
is stretched all the way from my bedroom doorway.
"LOOK MOMMY WHAT I CAUGHT!!!"
OMG!!! I reach for the camera but JUST as I grabbed it she opened her
mouth and the mouse when SPROING back to the bedroom. DAMMIT!!!
Well I left the camera on my desk where i could grab it.....
Twenty minutes later, I hear it again. "Mrowffmrowffmrowff!!" I grab
the camera and turned it on as she came into the living room doorway.
But before i could focus it, SPROING!!!!
Curses!!! Missed it again!!
*sigh* It was soooo cute, cause she was SO proud of herself and was
trying to bring it to me.
AND I COULDN'T GET A DAMN PICTURE!!!!!
*sigh* one day.....

Heh. I have a mousie on a stick that both cats love. When we play with
it, though, Miranda is the opposite - she tries to carry the mousie away
from me. The elastic stretches, stretches, stretches, until she can't go
further, and then she releases it and it sproings back to me. Then she
can chase it all over!

aww, that does sound cute.
I have a similar toy for the furballs, and Jimmer is the one who goes
after it the most. one day he was doing a similar thing to what Mayhem
was doing, dashing toward me with the mouse in his mouth. but instead
of Jimmer opening his mouth and letting it go, the clip in the doorway
gave out, and he got a zinger in the hinder. he pretty much gave up on
that for the rest of the day...
