My mom, Ruby, is slowly going down hill. She is 83, and has lived at a
nursing home for the last 5.5 years. Yesterday when I went to visit
her the nurse called me aside and told me that her breathing had
changed, and that she didn't have much time. :( I called my brothers
and sisters, and told them what was going on, and went back down to be
with her. My niece Linda came to stay with me, and we held mom's hand,
and talked to her. She had episodes of apnea, and shallow breathing.
This went on till about 10:30pm. Then, she started to rally, and her
breathing became regular (but fast, 30bpm), and I asked her if she
wanted us to go home. She said yes. I then asked her if 'they' told
her to stay, and she said yes. She is still here, but I think it is
going to be a rough few days/weeks - don't rightly know. I am
extremely tired, but we will get through this, even if it is one
minute at a time. She is an avid cat lover, so she would love any
purrs sent her way.
Take care,
Patti aka Mishi

Purrs for your Mom, you and your family to get through this stressful period
of time.
It's not easy watching a loved one fade away, I had this with my Mum and
Dad, I live a good 4 hour drive from where they used to live, my Dad had
cancer and I was up and down like a yo yo every time I got the call that he
was "going" I would race down there, stay a few days, he would rally, I
would come home again, on my last trip to see him I arrived about an hour
before he passed away, I am sure he waited for me to be there as he knew I
would be a comfort to Mum.
14 years later I went through the same drama with my Mother, she passed away
almost 6 years ago.

Purrs and gentle headbutts for your Mom and purrs and hugs for you,
Patti. Having been there I know how difficult this can be and you have
all of our thoughts and prayers. I can well remember episodes of "them"
talking to my mother. She was in ICU for several weeks and one day I
was sitting with her when she woke up and said "Ohhh, we're having a
party." I played along with it at first saying yes we were but
eventually she wanted to know when she could eat the goodies. I had to
tell her we weren't really having a party. She said "Of course we are"
and pointing to the corner of the room she said "There is shrimp and
cake and sausage balls" and then she was distracted by a shadow who she
identified as her brother (who btw is still living) and she began
talking to him.
I will think of you often and we will send purrs your way that the next
days and weeks are gentle to your Mom and your family and that you have
an opportunity to build good memories.

Many purrs for your mom, and for you. I went through this with my

Purrs on the way for your mother.
I do hope she isn't suffering in any way, and that you still have some
time with her.
Maybe bring some old photographs to cheer her up, or read a favorite
book to her. Little things mean a lot, when time grows short...
