Uh-Oh! Monique thinks I've lost my marbles! Everything's okay, Monique. I've not been around because of working, some crazy family situations, and, of course, way too much writing. Nothing that can't be handled. Thank you for asking, though.
Cheers, Azy!

Not so much marble-losing; something about the tone of the blog post sounded a little down, though, and that plus a post about selling one's stuff ... well, anyway, glad to hear you're okay.

I'm sorry if it came off that way. I mean, who doesn't have some trouble on the home front, right? But I didn't want people to think there was anything to be troubled by. Nevertheless, I really do appreciate your concern. There isn't a whole lot of that in the world these days.
By the way, I don't know if I've mentioned this before or not; but was looking at your kitty pictures, and Eros DOES look quite like Fleez! They could be litter mates!
Cheers, Azy!

I'm really sorry about that. I looked them up, and they're still active. I relinked them on my blog, but I'll include links here so you can see them. I don't know why it did that. As far as I know eBay doesn't have a problem with them.

Oh no, thank you! I love to make people laugh, and my cat is the best tool I own. He's so cute and black and he has fuzzy lips. I may not sell everything I've listed, but I just hope the people who read them get a good laugh. Admittedly some are funnier than others, and that's the way it will always be, but I'm always looking for new ways to write funny things, and Housecat Wisdom has been soooooo serious the past few weeks. I felt it needed a little lightening up. <grin>

Oh no! That's /my/ job. I just spent over $40 dollars on a footy jersey for my niece! It's pathetic. Everytime I go in there I find something I want to get her, and it's way less than I'd have to pay if I went to the actual shops. It's murder! If my cat can sell enough to pay for his own kibble, that'll be great for me! <grin>
I had to relist the salt and pepper shakers, because they didn't sell. If they don't sell this time, I'll save them for Fleez's archives. I'm going to change the face of HCW here soon. I'll be turning it into a full-fleshed homepage type place with news links and all that. I think it needs to be a daily occurance not just a weekly one. It'll keep the readers more active, if you know what I mean. I've been thinking of going with a private domain, too, but I've not made my mind up on that one. I really do like blogger. It makes everything so much easier.
Well, nuff about that. Don't forget to tell all your friends about Fleez' funny listings. Maybe he can get a high hit count if nothing else. That'll make it all worth it. I don't ask for much, just a few thousand people looking at his listing. <grin> Even if they don't bid, it'll be interesting to see how many people will comment. That's the best part, I think: The comments! Love to hear what people have to say. It's fun.
Cheers, Azy!

Having your own domain can be pretty cheap -- I have a private domain via pair.net. I recommend them highly, especially if you are at all technical -- they give you shell access, permission to run scripts (with set limits as to how much processing time you can use), etc.
Every time they have contacted me about changing the terms of service, it's been to either reduce the price or increase the service (more space, more bandwidth, etc).
I have a heck of a time thinking of things to put on my blog. Originally, it was supposed to be a spot for me to develop all of my clever ideas into full-fledged articles, but more often it went more like "Today I ate mac and cheese." Very boring; something only a relative might find interesting. Maybe. It definitely gave me a new respect for editorialists. The trick isn't the ability to write clever stuff -- it's the ability to write clever stuff *on a regular basis*. And the willingness to develop errant thoughts into articles that anyone would want to read.
Part of the trick of running your own blog is finding (or writing) software that does everything you want. I do like the fact that the software I'm using (which I really do need to upgrade eventually) supports RSS notification, so friends can subscribe to my blog and not have to manually check for updates.
I like reading Mr. Fleez' blog =)

::nodding, smiling, and trying not to glass over:: I'm technical about semicolon usage, and I can hook up most audio/visual devices. That's about as far as it goes. I don't even follow recipes when I cook! I wish I were, but there you have it, I'm not. :)

ROTFL!!! Yeah, that sure can be a hassle! That's why I...erm...Mr. Fleez blogs weekly rather than daily. He has far too many other things to do with his time, and with no opposable thumbs he finds it hard flinging pencils at the ceiling for four or more hours a day before inspiration finally hits him. <grin>

I wish I knew thing one about site feeds. I get a shamefully low number of hits, and I put a HUGE ammount of effort into it. I have maybe 25 regular readers. 3 that I know of for sure. At the end of the month I can come away with 124 or 520, but I've never got more than that. Pretty sad, eh? It really is a good site. I've seen sites with three pictures with a caption under each that get thousands of hits a day. If I got thousands of hits a day, I'd build a decent readership in no time.

Okay, make that 4 that I know of for sure. <g>

Anyway, your hits sound pretty good to me ... pretty sure most of the hits on my site are from me looking at it. *grin* Not that I could see any reason for most people to read the stuff I write, unless they know me personally, and even then it can get pretty boring.

I've been in the computer industry for 25 years, but at home I have only a few gadgets and they're not exactly cutting edge. I tend to be pretty conservative about technological change - I don't buy new things unless I feel a real need for it, and that's pretty rare! I bought my PC in 1999, and it wasn't brand-new when I got it. It still suits me fine!
And I rarely follow recipes except maybe at the very beginning when I'm first learning it. Once I've got the hang of it, though, it's eyeball all the way, not to mention improvisations, tweaks and additions the original creator never dreamed of. Eventually it becomes my own recipe.

I'm not sure the actual numbers are that important. Sounds like you have a loyal group of fans. I'd be happy to write for 124 - 520 people a month!!

I'm not bad on keeping up on what's out there, but I by no means know how it all works. I really need to know more about computers and the internet, though because I want to start an internet business eventually. If one's looking at that as an option, she had better know how to produce a working website. Housecat Wisdom is like my prototype. The place where I lay things out and see what I can come up with in my ignorance, so once I can figure how to come up with things in an educated manner I have a feel for what I like. I love Housecat Wisdom, too. It's a lot of fun.
Joyce also wrote---> And I rarely follow recipes except maybe at the very beginning when I'm first learning it. Then you know what it's like for people to say, "You should write this stuff down, so I can make it, too!" I'm trying to teach my mum to cook, and she's just starting to get the feel for visual spicing. :)
Joyce further pontificated--->Well, it's a lot easier to look at pictures for 10 seconds than it is to actually read someone's writing! I'm not sure the actual numbers are that important. Sounds like you have a loyal group of fans. I'd be happy to write for 124 - 520 people a month!!<---
While it's true that looking at pictures for ten seconds is easier than reading HCW (I've been both praised and condemned for not dumbing down my work), I have pictures on my site, also. Sometimes on the page, and other times linked in. And I know my pictures are cute, because Fleez is cute. I couldn't ask for a better spokesman. He looks like a snobby know-it-all! :)

Azy - 07 Sep 2006 18:10 GMT Monique Y. Mudama wrote---> Whereas I can't cook unless I follow a recipe =P
It's much easier to follow recipes. If your food sucks, you can blame it on Betty Crocker or whomever the recipe came from originally. With me, everyone knows I couldn't follow a recipe if Aunt Jemimah and Uncle Ben both held guns to my head, so when the food is bad, it's ALL ME!
Monique also wrote---->Hehe. Well, so that's what I wonder -- can you keep a daily blog and keep it as entertaining as it is right now? I know I couldn't. Heck, 've literally gone months between posts!<----
I probably could if I didn't work. And now that I'm doing news, sports, and weather (among working on a million other things for my blog site) there's no way I'd have the time to write a full column every day. I'm thinking of keeping a daily cat calendar and then having a link to my weekly column, but I need to finish all of my sub sites before I can develop an actual home page. It'll probably take me a few months to have everything tweaked the way I want it. Possibly more.
Monique further pontificated---> RSS just means that people can choose to subscribe, and then they'll get a message when you post something new. It's something they choose, not something you foist onto them. I'm definitely a big fan. <----
Which is the way I want it. If people didn't /want/ to subscribe and I /forced/ them, well that'd make me a bit of a fascist. But, I know that if people stumble across me and see that there's a site feed, chances are they'd subscribe. Unless they're not into pseudo-intellectual feline psychobabble. (Perhaps that's my problem.) Regardless, I'd love to get more feedback. I sometimes feel like I'm wasting my time.
Monique concluded---->Anyway, your hits sound pretty good to me ... pretty sure most of the hits on my site are from me looking at it. *grin* Not that I could see any reason for most people to read the stuff I write, unless they know me personally, and even then it can get pretty boring.<----
I don't think I count on my stats, but I try not to look at my site anyway, just in case. I finish it up and leave it alone. That's the best I can do. I have a friend do my secondary proof reading, and he's usually good at it. For the most part, though, it's the Fleez show: I do all the work; he gets all the credit, and we both like it that way.
:) Cheers, Azy!
