I just got back from the hospital; my 84 YO mother came through her
cardiac procedure just fine. Her pacemaker has her out of atrial
fibrillation, finally.

The doctor came to speak to me after he had finished (in much less time
than he had estimated) and he told me everything went "just perfectly,
with no problems of any kind". Thus, he finished 'early'.

She is resting reasonably comfortably, with all vital signs right where
they belong.

There will be a relatively short recovery time, and she won't be allowed
to drive for 3 weeks after she is discharged. But I only live about 15
miles away, so I can take her wherever she needs to go.

My boss asked me to call him when I had any information, which I did.

He was busy doing *my work* so I wouldn't have to come back to a bunch
of backed up work. Like I said: what a nice guy to work for!

Now I just need to convince her to sell the house she's lived in for 45
years, and move somewhere, anywhere, with no stairs to climb (or fall
down!) There's three flights in her house, now.

Many thanks to all of you!

I'm glad everything went well.  Good luck with the convincing.  Mothers
aren't easy to convince.  I just (a few months ago) went through the process
of convincing my mother that she needed full time care.  Finally we showed
her the long term care facility, and she made the decision on her own.  At
that time, I didn't think she'd last more than another few weeks (She's 94).
She is thriving in her new home, and considers it home.

Is there a retirement community or assisted living facility nearby that your
mother could afford?  If it's nice, she might see the advantages, as long as
you don't push too hard.

Best of luck!

That's very good news.  They've added years to her ticker, and she'll
probably outlive all of us. :)

Tell her that while you know she is fine in the house now, that later on she
might find the stairs a burden and that it would be so much easier to get
settled into a new house now.

Great news about your Mom!  Hope her recovery proceeds apace and she
doesn't "push it".  And I agree that's some neat boss you have.
