Little Feet has always used various surfaces to make "bank shots" -
when he is zooming, he bounces off the bed to make a turn into the
hallway, while still maintaining his zoominess. I think he has taught
it to the other cats as well.
Dulce Mae is at least as zoomie as Little Feet. In fact, she pretty
much zooms everywhere. But high speed has its disadvantages as well.
Yesterday, I was in the bathroom, when this black, girl cannonball
came zooming into the room. She tried to jump up on the counter by the
sink, but was moving too fast. She ended up jumping 2/3 of the way up,
and sliding down. She looked around a bit, decided nobody important
was watching and then did a graceful leap up to the counter.
This past weekend, I was stretched out on the bed, and Dulce Mae came
zooming up on the bed, apparently intending to run fastfastfast across
the bed, to the dresser. It was funny to see her skid to a complete
stop on the bed, eyes wide open, then meow at me for being in her way.
I guess she hadn't made plans for a leap over me as she often does.
Yesterday, she was zooming around the apartment, when she LEAPED at
the arm of the couch where I was sitting, held on tight, then started
digging in. I asked her not to claw my couch, so she LEAPED to
Senyah's recliner, grabbed the arm of the chair, and began trying to
subdue it. Again, I asked her not to destroy Senyah's chair, and
pointed at the dismally unused cat tree by the window.
Well, Dulce Mae grumbled at me a little, jumped to the coffee table,
then gingerly stepped from there to the plastic seat on Senyah's
waler. Dulce Mae gave me a "Well is *this* okay?" look, and settled
down for a nap.
Even cannonballs haveto stop sometime.

I was treated to a session of Midnight Zoomies this weekend. I was
lying in bed after lights out, juuuusst getting drowsy, when suddenly I
got GALLOPED over by eight flying paws. I can only be grateful at such
times that cats have paws as opposed to hooves. But when they have a
race through my dark apartment in the night, it's amazing how two eight
pound pussy cats can sound like a large water buffalo herd crossing the
Serengeti Plain at a run.

Even somewhat elderly kitties get the zoomies once in a while. I was
sitting in the living room reading Sunday afternoon when I heard a "slam"
from the cat flap in the back door. Moments later I was startled by a
fuzzy grey blur leaping from the kitchen floor to the back of the couch
beside me. It was Cleopatra! She tries to project the image of the stately
matriarch, but she occasionally forgets herself and gets kittenish.
Once she landed beside me I could just about see the mental gears churning
- "Oops, he saw me playing. Must act like it was an optical illusion. I'll
sit here and groom myself until he stops looking and laughing...."

LOL, what floor do you live on? I'm on the second floor, and whenever my
cats do their "running of the buffalo" interpretations, I always wonder
what it must sound like to the woman who lives downstairs!

Fortunately, I live on the ground floor. =o)
Although for a number of years, a couple lived above me, and I SWEAR it
sounded like they were running a home bowling alley. Or they were
learning to do Flamenco dancing with emphasis on the stomping.

Maybe they had a very happy sex life? :)
Joyce - wondering what kind of sexual activity might sound like bowling
