KFC goes to TED's

I took Kitty to see the vet tonight to try and get to the bottom (ooh,
excuse the unintentional pun) of her inappropriate elimination issues. It is
not just peeing, there has been the occasional packet over the last few
months too.

She actually behaved quite well, to my surprise.  TED asked me to get her
out of her carrier.  I think it must have helped that the carrier had a
front opening with a wire mesh window so she was aware of what was going on
all the time, rather than the top opening box that she could not see out of
which I used before.
She was not a willing volunteer to come out on to the examination table when
I opened the front, even so, so I picked her up and took her out of the
carrier.  So far, so good.  No slashing or growling.
I explained her history as an ex-feral, her uncertain temper and warned him
to take care in handling her.  She headed straight for me so I tickled her
behind the ears and talked babytalk to her.   She purred while TED examined
her as long as I kept doing it.  Even when he stuck a thermometer where the
sun doesn't shine she only raised her back end and kept purring.  Blimey!
TED said "Oh, isn't she just a lovely tiny old thing?"  I bit my lip.
Her temperature was normal but she has a heart murmur and quite a fast
heartbeat which he says might tie in with thyroid problems in addition to
what is causing the other problems.  I suggested that her fast heartbeat
could be because she was frightened, although obviously the heart murmur was
nothing to do with that: a heart murmur is a heart murmur, but I remember
just before I have any operation myself my heartbeat goes sky high - even
though I am trying to be calm.
He does not think that she has any form of urinary infection.  If she had,
she would be peeing a little bit very often, and she isn't.
When she pees on my magazine, or elsewhere, the pee is the size of a saucer,
so he sort of ruled that out.
We discussed the possibilities, which were kidney failure, liver failure,
thyroid problems and senility.
She had a full blood profile two years ago when she was missing and found
injured and everything was working just fine in the important organ
department then, which TED seems to think is a good sign.

BUT, BUT!!   I have had to come home without her, leave her there for lots
of tests and she hasn't had her meal!

She is so, so tiny but has a huge presence.  The whole house is echoing with
loneliness without her.

It is amazing how big their presence is and I think KFC has an exceptional
presence. I'm glad she behaved so well and I hope they find out what is up
and it is not bad.

I'm afraid I've come to this late (ISP's newsgroup service offline for
days then 3,500 posts at once) but we're all definitely purring, wagging
& wishing for KFC's tests to show nothing serious and that she has much
more quality time with you back home where she so much belongs.

Purrs & best wishes

Many, many purrs and prayers for a very special little cat.

Here's hoping she's home asap with not a lot wrong.

I'm afraid they might say she has renal or liver failure.   If she is
getting senile I can live with that.  That would be the best thing to hope
for.
I wanted to rule out anything clinical.
If I should live so long to become senile and start to become unable to do
my proper toileting I hope there will be someone kind enough to look after
me and not tell me off.
I've done it for my dogs, and I will do it for my cat.
OTOH, if there is something that can be sorted out medically, that would be
great for both of us.

I'm glad you took her in, and I'm sorry they had to keep her. I know
how hard it is when you have to come home wihtout them. Purrs that
it's nothing going on, but then if something is going on, she can get
some treatment to make her feel better. We have limitless purrs here,
and are sending out some for you to have a peaceful night until you
can be reunited again.

Sounds like she has decided to be a lady about it at least.

When Jake went in last week, the vet left and wandered around for a while to
see if his heart rate would go down with a little peace and quiet.  It did.
Just not enough.

But it still sounds like she is doing quite nicely for an elderly lady cat.

Lots of purrs and a favorite candle being lit here.  Not only for a good
report but that she doesn't stress too much while she is away.

Oh, I know how that feels, Tweed! It's so hard when you have to leave
them at TED's. We are sending many purrs for KFC and for you and
Boyfriend, and hoping nothing is seriously wrong with your feisty old lady.

How is it they can make you feel so guilty without even being around?
When Betty was on her all day drip chemotherapy, I could picture her
saying, "Where are you daddy?  Why did you leave me?  I thought I was
a good little girl.  Please come back.  I promise I'll be good.
Daaaaaddyyyyy!"

Oh boy, I feel for you!  I was wondering how she did at the vet's.  I'm
glad it looked good, and I hope it just stays good.  She's quite the
matriarc of the group.
