One day at a time.

Sabrina gets by the most minute of degrees bolder as we leave the gate
off the door. She'll come sniffing about or even venture out a bit, but
invariably will come across another of the girls; then she'll mutter
obscenities and sulk in the bedroom. For some reason, she's not so
offended by Stosh's presence. She'll hiss a couple times if he comes
over to give me my massage, but it's almost a token hiss. Stosh seems to
think so, anyway; he pays no mind and goes on with his work.

Sabrina did have it out with Brandy last night. Brandy is by nature
outgoing and inquisitive, and she did the unthinkable: she got into
Sabrina's wool. We lined a box with the wool to make a hidey-hole for
her, and how she guards that wool! It is as if she's never had anything
to herself and, now that she owns a scrap of property, will guard it
with her life. Now there wasn't an actual catfight, but Sabrina went off
on a princess fit of loudly majestic proportion, dancing on the bed and
screeching insults that woke me and Louie up at an ungodly late--or
early--hour.

Later that morning, we found a turd on the living room carpet.

Despite this, Brandy is forgiving and Sabrina's decided to come out of
hiding. Tiny bits of progress shine through the cracks. She'll sleep on
the bed instead of hiding in the cabinet or on the shelf, and she looks
with a lot more interest at the door in recent days.

Incidentally, the vet is recommending Feliway in this case, and we got
the diffuser and a spray both. Anyone know how the spray is used? I
don't think it's like an air freshener. Will it be harmful to spritz the
wool? AND, can it really keep me and Louie from getting onto another
$#!+ list?

Blessed be,
Baha

Spray it on corners of things, like the bed the couch etc. Sounds like
good progress.

Spray it directly on spots where they hang around a lot, and on
objects that you observe them scent-marking, i.e. rubbing their faces
on.

Lots of purrs and best wishes that Feliway will work really well,

How disrespectful to ignore the little girl!  She must not be as
massageable as meowmie.  Sabrina's a cutie, but I wonder if she hid
all the time from the dog too in her old home?  It sounds like she's
not very socialized to cats.  Yet, anyway.

Stoshu has a strong sense of duty and remarkable focus on his "work," for all
I tease about being Ritalin-challenged. He'll acknowledge Sabrina, but he
doesn't cuss back. I'm surprised, actually; he's usually so rambunctious I
expect him to try to engage her in a wrasslin match.

She was with the dog (also a Roxie) much the same way as with Stosh:
sometimes ambivalent, with a couple of vulgarities here and there. Most of
the time it was on cordial terms. I've seen them eat together from the same
dish once or twice, and neither complained. They weren't on the buddy level
that Stosh and Brandy are (these two go into marathon mutual grooming
sessions and sleep together) but there was never a problem. Mostly Sabrina
was restricted: some rooms off-limits, yelled at if she went near the
computer or curtains or any table. I don't think she had any place she could
really call her own, and that's why I think she's so possessive of the wool.
For the first time, perhaps, something is really hers.

Blessed be,
Baha

When they're "plucking" you, they can look very laid back and relaxed,
but when they're "stomping" you, they get such a look of focus and
concentration.

I wonder if Richard had gone through this before, and would have some
advice?  No, I don't suppose he put up baby gates and gave her bits of
wool. :)
