You are  invited to take a hike.  A long one way hike.

No advertising of any type is allowed on this group.

With so many spammers using Google groups, I've condsidered blocking the
whole domain.

We don't have too awfully many spammers here though. Are there a lot on
other groups? If you block the whole domain, would you be blocking me?
(I post through google. :-(

Spammers and (even worse, IMO) trolls who turn many a thread
into a flame war because they don't like the poster who
started it!

Probably - that's why I don't just block Google (or Yahoo,
or a couple other fertile sources of spam).  Too many
"legitimate" people use those addresses.

OK, it was spam. And advertising isn't welcome here. But at least it
wasn't completely irrelevant spam. Some folks here might be interested
to know about a pet-friendly vacation spot.

I suppose you have to stomp on all of it, though, even the ones that
are of actual interest to the participants. Because unfortunately,
if you allow even that, everybody else who's selling snake oil, hot
stock tips, viagra and penile enlargements, weight-loss miracles,
and other useless crap are going to see it as a green light and come
flooding through. <sigh>

That's the only reason I haven't blocked it already. The spamming and
trolling does seem worse on other groups, if Google don't do something about
it I think people will start blocking them.

Only problem is, since AOL (and a couple other ISP's)
stopped carrying Usenet newsgroups, many people can only
access them through Google!
