Well, I couldn't resist this silly toy, so I went looking around for a
place to buy it. There are NO places in my part of the worl that carry
it. It is made by Bandai, and is called the Neko-Nyanbou.

So I checked the Bandai site to find out what the heck it was called.
After using Google to search for Neko-Nyanbou, I found a Japanese
hobby shop that carries them, called "Hobby Link Japan".

The prices are 900 Yen apiece (almost US $8.00), and 1200 Yen (a
little over US $10.00) shipping (up to 300g - these are 40g each), so
3000 Yen total. I ordered two of the Brown Tora model (orange tabby
with white paw), so it should cost me about US $25.00.

Here's a picture from the HLJ site where I ordered them:

I have no idea how long the order will take to get from Japan to
Texas, but I ordered them on Thursday the 17th. I'll keep y'all
updated (big grin). I hope they don't look like sticks of explosives
on postal scanners...

Well,it has claws, so it's not a recommended use... You're obviously
thinking of a portable massager *cough*...

It could be a back scratcher!

I thought that's what it *was*. At least, on another website, that was
one of its suggested uses.

The website Tak. bought it from says "This item is a completed toy designed
for children."

NOPE! <eg>

But in that case, let's just hope the little kitty paw keeps its little
kitty claws IN.

I've always been slightly puzzled but intrigued by the Japanese fondness for
the just plain silly.

Hello Kitty is still popular if I'm not mistaken.

Especially if it involves cuteness. *Especially* kitty cuteness!

And, to link this with the other subthread, there is the famous Hello
Kitty vibrator (which claimed to be for shoulder massages):

I went to Toys R Us, and tried to describe it to one of the clerks,
and he told me, "We don't have *anything* like *that*." When I brought
up a picture on my handheld, he looked at me funny and asked, "Who
would buy such a thing?" before stopping, looking at me again and
saying, "Oh."

Then he just... walked away.

Then there is the Hello Vader costume that made it to some gaming
convention:
