Miranda just yodelled! She has been very talkative the last few days.
Usually she has a very varied repertoire of meaows, mrows, mrooos,
mah-mah-mahs etc. But this was the first time she went into a falsetto
yodel. It was like Meow-meow-meow-YODEL-meow-meow-meow-YODEL! I wish I
could figure out what she is saying or what she wants.

I wish I could stick a microphone in her face and say, 'yodel into
this.' I can do it, of course, but she wouldn't.

And this explains why Mir didn't wake me up early this morning. She was
otherwise occupied.

Perhaps she is trying to tell you she wishes to audition for the
Savonlinna Opera. =o)

Marina, you have to learn to speak "blue".  :)  Cute story!

I've heard it said that yodeling involves switching smoothly between
your "chest voice" and your "head voice".  Can cats do that?  I wish I
could listen to Miranda yodeling!

That's right, although I would say it's more like a *rough* transition.
A smooth one would not have that sudden "flip" sound, and you wouldn't
know exactly when the switch had happened. A good singer knows how to
go from chest to head without any glitches (ie, yodeling) in the voice.

I haven't learned how to iron out the yodels from my voice when singing
a song with a wide range - in fact, it's rather pronounced. But my
choral group is doing a African pygmy song that's supposed to have a
yodel-y sound, and I'm leading the call-and-response because my yodel
is better than anyone else's. Hey, it's not a bug, it's a feature!

Joyce

PS - I've never heard a cat yodel in my life. Mir-mir must be
particularly gifted.

They make some amazing noises, don't they?  Dante is a chirper, and
Stinky, of course, loves to concertize on summer evenings, especially
while he walks up and down the piano keyboard. ;)

LOL! Just what I would expect of Stinky; he sings to his own accompaniment.
