The other morning before dawn I thought I heard Rusty's voice. But that
couldn't be.  He sleeps
in his own room with the door closed. It is one of the few doors he
can't open. His room is at the other end and I shouldn't be able to
hear him. Then I drifted off to sleep, and heard the noise again. I sat
up and sure enough, even without my glasses,  I  saw an orange furry
thing moving on the floor. Turned out I didn't close the door of his
room all the way, and left a small gap big enough for him to squeeze
through. Another time I forgot to close his door, and  he came into my
room and jumped on me at 3 am.  Woke me right up, almost  screaming.

Mischief - 17 Aug 2006 03:46 GMT
Mischief likes to sit on the windowsill right above my head to sniff
the outdoors.

I can't tell you how many times she has jumped from the sill right onto
my head (both when I'm asleep or just about to fall asleep) and scared
the s*** out of me.  A few times i think i cried out, but every times
ended with a "Goddammit Missy!"

Another time she was on the window and Mayhem was asleep on my pillow.
Mischief jumped off the sill with the intention of jumping OVER Mayhem
to the next pillow.

Mayhem said "I don't think so BITCH!!!!"  She growled and started
swinging at Mischief, which forced Missy to alter her trajectory and
land right on my head.

So imagine you are nice and relaxed and about to fall asleep when
suddenly you see something fly over your head, you hear a loud
"REEEOOOOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!" and that something lands on your head, and
runs across your body, followed by another screeching thing.

I almost had a heart attack and it took me FOREVER to get back to
sleep.

Varmints..............

When Harri Roadcat and I were still working a few kinks out of our system,
I got a few heart-stopping moments. The Freightliner Century has a
rack/cabinet over the dashboard that stretch the entire width of the cab
and is about a foot or so high and a couple feet deep. Harri used to love
to sleep up there. After she had been quietly sleeping there for an hour
or so I'd often forget when she was there. When she then decided to jump
down onto my shoulder, it frequently startled me quite badly. That's not a
good thing when you're driving a vehicle that's about 75 feet long and
weighs 80000 pounds!

After the first few times that she startled me and made me jump (which
shocked her too) she figured out how to fix the startle problem. She began
giving me her "Geronimo!" meow. If I heard a loud, authoritative
"MEEEEOOOOOWWWW" from overhead I knew that a little fuzzy orange bomb was
about to drop on my shoulder.

I loved reading about Harri.  How is she now?  Any new adventures?    MLB

No, she's gotten pretty used to the housecat life style. She's our bet
huntress so far, having brought in a sparrow, a gopher, a couple of mice,
and innumerable crickets and grasshoppers, and she is prefecting her Tough
Girl Kitty image.

However, I am thinking seriously that I might end up driving a truck
again, maybe before the end of the year, providing I can find an
opportunity that will allow me to avoid the problems I had with the last
company. If so, then Harri will get a chance to be a Roadcat once again :)

Reminds me of when I was a teenager, sleeping at a friend's house in
the spare bedroom.  I wasn't used to cats.  I was sound asleep when
their cat, Stimpy, landed on the bed suddenly, making himself about as
heavy as he possibly could.  I think I actually did cry out.

Now, of course, it's business as usual to have a cat thud onto the
bed.

When I was a kid,  our cat often jump on my feet when I was sleeping. I
would wake up
kicking around, dislodging the cat, who tried to hang on with claws out
on the sheet. Other
times she walked up to put her face close to mine.

Now my bedroom door is always closed, except when Rusty is in his room
behind closed
doors. So he can't jump on me or wake me up. When I fell asleep on the
couch watching
TV, sometimes he would jump on me. Not so much these days. Many times I
woke up on
the couch to find Rusty snoozing under the coffee table, or under the
rocking chair.  I would
pick him up and put him in his room, and close the door before going to
bed myself. Just
like putting a kid to bed, excpet I don't kiss Rusty good night.

?????

Must be cultural differences, as I usually kiss one or more of my kitties
goodnight when I go to bed - can't do all of them as that would take all
night :D

Anyone else???

I kiss Caliban all the time, not just goodnight. Miranda doesn't like to
have my face close to her; strange thing, Nikki was the same way. But
Caliban will take kissies anytime, and he even gives me kisses back
(touching his nose to my face).

Actually, Mirmir is getting used to me sticking my face in her face, and
she doesn't draw back like she used these days. Nikki also learned to
accept it, though she never seemed to enjoy it like Frank.

Nico is like Miranda and Nikki, doesn't like my face up close to his.
But he doesn't draw back either like before, he just lays his ears flat
this way or that way, depending on where my face is.

Laku OTOH is a head butter estraordinaire, and besides head butting also
smooches his face against mine when he's feeling snuggly-purry.

I  kiss both good bye when I go to work.

I kiss Oscar all the time, not just when I'm going to bed!  And love
to bury my face in her fur.

I may need to knock it off, though.  I've been noticing that the area
around my mouth is itchy, and there are tiny pinprick bumps.  Now that
I think of it, when I was a kid I used to kiss my hamster, and had to
stop for the same reason ...

Oh yeah.  When I see pictures of your kitties, I wonder how you can
resist kissing them long enough to take the shot.  Don't the pictures
of Lizzie sleeping with her tongue out even make one momentarily
consider *French kissing* a cat? :)

Oh, and I also often say, "bye bye crocdile, see you later alligator,
kissy kissy".  Funny, mom used to say that to us. And we always said it
to my nephews when they were going home.  So, I kiss them both when I
am going to work and say that. Yes, I am the crazy cat woman.

Always! I love to kiss my kitties on their foreheads. Smudge puts up
with it, Roxy enjoys it when she's being cuddly (and gives me nose
kisses), and ironically, scaredy-cat Licky really likes being kissed!

That's very sweet.  You can kiss your kitty good night though.

Why not?  I kiss my kitties most of the time, but especially good night.
Huey insists on Rob giving him night night kisses as well as good morning,
afternoon, and I love you kisses.  I get to kiss him after Rob is done.  The
only one I don't kiss on is Sonya, who really doesn't like anyone's face too
close to her.
