My mom has been admitted into the hospital with pneumonia. I'm a bit upset
because she has not been feeling well. She went to the doctor because she
had blood in her urine and a back ache. He said the back ache was unrelated
and gave her bactrim for the infection but he never followed up on why her
back suddenly started aching terribly. Well, she went to the hospital
tonight because she had rouble breathing today so at least they have found
it. I would appreciate any spare purrs out there. There is no way I can go
home right now. I'm very depressed.

Power purrs coming.

FWIW, your mom's experience isn't that unusual. My brother a few months
ago was feeling like crap for a few weeks. He made 5 trips to the
doctor, and the doc kept telling him he had allergies, or he had a cold,
or he was just too tired. For his 6th visit he went to a different
doctor in the same HMO. That doc took lung x-rays, told him that he had
pneumonia, and had most likely had it for the last couple of months. He
then got the pills he needed to knock it down, and felt much better a
week or so later.

Many purrs that your mom will feel better soon.

My sympathies are with your mom ... and with you too.  Having a loved
one in the hospital is a very trying ordeal, not to mention the
misdiagnosis to cause you additional worry and your mom additional
pain.  Hope you are both feeling better soon.  I'm going to go and
skritch the kitties now to get them purring for both of you.

Regards and Purrs,

Of course Karen, I'll be thinking about you and your mother. I hope they
find the right antibiotics for her and get her up and running again soon.

Karen, with her symptoms I'm wondering why they didn't do a CT for kidney
stones?  Those are the symptoms I get every time I have them.

Purrs for your mom to get better quickly.

Purrs on the way Karen - get well purrs for your mother and soothing, we
care purrs for you.  Your mother is in Florida, right? Is she somewhere
that we have someone who could check on her for you? Or do you have
family there reporting back to you?

Actually, mom is in South Dakota. My sister is there, which is good. Not a
lot of more news so far today. They found her platelet count is low too, but
I found that one of the warnings about elderly people taking Bactrim is low
platelet count. SHe had not been feeling well, but got drastically  worse
when that doctor put her on it. She sounded a lot better today. They did
scans and lots of tests, but I don't think they really told her anything
yet. Oh yes, they also doubled her potassium. I begin to wonder if it is
just a bunch of stuff going south at once. *sigh* I wish you got definitive
diagnoses, but it doesn't ever seem to happen. Thanks everyone for all the
purrs. Poor Tycho and Petrus are going to be missing her something fierce.

Soothing purrs and healing prayers for your Mom and you. I am glad you
caught it early. Cheer yourself up by having your Mom change doctors.

My DH had a doctor like your mom's; he didn't look beyond DH's
backache to find the source of the other symptoms. When DH went to the
ER with hallutinations and got put on oxygen, the doctor wrote him off
again. It turned out he had colon cancer. Perhaps he might have lived
a few years longer if it had been found sooner.
