When is one of the best times to study? When you are laid off, and
need a break from job-hunting, I suppose.
But I think I've been overdoing on the studying as well - ASP.NET,
ADO.NET, PHP 5, a little catch up on my perl and Excel VBA, with a
side order of catch up on C#. But mostly ASP.NET.
I was trudging through the chapter on data controls, and just started
on the ADO.NET chapter, when I saw this paragraph:
To understand the futility of understanding
the ADO.NET object model, you'll undertake
two tasks in this chapter:
Of course, it said "utility" in the book, so I decided this was a good
time to go play with the cats, and gve my brain a rest. Instead, I sat
back down in front of the computer and typed this in.
I ask you, how did my priorities get so screwed up...?

Either way, it's not great writing. "To understand the utility of
understanding"? (Actually, before I read that it really said "utility",
I thought it sounded sort of Zen-like.)
This is your competition, Mark. You're gonna do great!!

Currently rewriting an entire manual that was translated from Japanese
into English. My job is to make it sound like something an English-
speaking person would actually say. This includes instructions such
as: "Take care not to give strong shock or vibration to the equipment,
otherwise there might be a risk of dangerous situations, such as damage
to the equipment or to the patient." (This is medical equipment.) You
really don't want to damage the patient!
PS - Smudge just turned her ear inside-out. She looks very silly.

Aagh. I hope I'm doing a better job. I'm translating the material for an
"ICT Driving Licence" that will be used by the whole university (and
possibly some other universities than the one I'm employed at), and I
have to translate it into both Swedish and English. I've been doing both
languages in turns, because they sort of feed each other, but I just
noticed that I was happily writing a sentence in English in the Swedish
version! Aaagh. Only ten days back at work and I'm already all messed up!

Tessie's ears turn inside out very easily - and stay that way! She
looks so funny trotting around the house with one or both ears flicked
over... Silver's ears will flick over but they don't stay that way,
and Scouty's ears won't flick at all!

I think cats ears must be a lot tougher than they look, it looks like it
should be uncomfortable when they're inside out but it obviously doesn't
worry them.

Check out the 3rd and 6th picture in the column on the left for some
major Inside-Out Ear action.
Too bad I didn't get a picture of Inside-Out Ear Smudge, but I no longer
have a working camera.

He's a very sleek and handsome gentleman, isn't he? In fact, he's
more sleek than usual, now that I've been BRUSHING him! (Which he
loves.) He's now sleek and shiny.
