Vet Tech Journals: 48 hours of craziness

It is now 1:38 am PST on Sunday morning.  I just got off from work and
I'm currently soaking my feet.  Though i've been on the wagon for the
and have tried to diet the last two weeks, i have a very large beer
and Taco bell at my side.

But I digress.... lemme start at the beginning

Thursday night/Friday morning: Got about six hours of sleep.  I pull
myself up and get ready to eave for work at 11 am.  At 10:55, i get a
call from the local emergency clinic, where i'm on the relief staff.
One of their staff had a family emergency and could I work tonight from
6 pm - 1 am?  I told them that i worked an hour from the clinic and
didn't get done until 6 pm, so I could work but i would be late.  They
said that would be fine and could i also work saturday from 4 pm to
midnight?  I said I would (hey i need the money)

So my planned schedule was work from 12-6, run home to feed the cats,
run to the e-clinic and work until 1 am.  Run home and try to sleep.
Wake up and work from 7:30 am - 2 pm, run home, take a nap, feed the
cats and work from 4 to midnight.

YEah that was the plan.......

Work was crazy but everything went okay until i got home from working
until 1 am.  I coudln't sleep............

I got about 3 hours of sleep before i had to drag myself to work at
7:30.  More craziness ensued.  The head tech had to leave at 2 pm and
we were behind.  On Saturdays we see only appts, but of course some
animals show up that need to stay for mild procedures that Dr. G can
only attend to AFTER he's done seeing appts at 2pm.  Sooooooooo I said
I could stay until 3:30.

What was I supposed to do?  Our newest technician stayed so we could do
an utlrasound on a cat, which takes two people to hold.  Then she had
to leave and Dr. G then got a call approving an IV catheter and fluids
for a dog that was there.  Dr. G can't place the catheter
himself.......

Well at least it gave me a chance to earn some brownie points with Dr.
G.  I helped him out and he kept thanking me for staying.  I left the
clinic at 3:45.

No time to stop at home, so i went directly to the e-clinic.  My feet
are hurting (they've been hurting a lot lately) and i still have 8
hours to go.....................

Things started slow, and then all hell broke loose.  When I could I sat
in a chair and leaned back so my throbbing feet were off teh ground.

Finally midnight rolls by and i limp home.  First though i head to Taco
Bell, and then the drugstore for a much needed beer and some foot soak
powder.

The cats were quite miffed that they didn't get fed until after
midnight, but are too weirded out by the sloshing sounds of my feet in
a small tub to really complain.

Ugh......

The ermergency shifts were very interesting and i'll try to post a VTJ
entry later.

I'd take a shower right now, but that would mean standing...... so I'm
going to enjoy my *evil* food and my *evil* drink and then crash
out......

purrs for my feet please.  They've really been hurting a lot lately,
and unfortunately i can't afford a trip to the doctor just to get
referred to a podiatrist.  grrrrr........

Hi Kristi,

That was a rough weekend! Thank you for doing that job, as our furry
masters sometimes need help and also need someone who cares. Purrs for
your tired, aching feet also.

Btw, have you heard of the shoes called Crocs? They are a bit homely,
but VERY comfortable. A lot of nurses wear them, and they are easy to
clean and disinfect. I recently purchased a pair and love them.  They
aren't too expensive - I paid $30.00 US for them.  I have seen knock
offs availavle for much less, but they aren't as comfortable.

Lots of purrs for your feet, please don't overdo things and make yourself
ill, it's just not worth it.

Wow, what a workload. Lots of purrs for your poor feet. Maybe a new pair
of shoes would help?

Your poor feet!!!  Soothing purrs for them!  Hope you can catch up on some
rest and that your kitties apply a little nursing care!
hugs,
Christine

What a weekend!
Smokey says "She works at a Doc's place?  PURR-PURR-PURR.
Mistletoe says "A Doc's place?  Yuck.  No purrs from me.  I'm going to
hide!"
So substitute my good foot wishes for Missy's purrs.
