A new huntress in the family

Some of you may remember that my Nikki was a fierce huntress who didn't
balk at diving into the water to catch a water vole. In a good vole
year, she would bring me five or six voles a day, and eat maybe half of
them (three, or more often, half of each of the six :oP).

This summer, Miranda showed me that she was walking in the footsteps of
Nikki. She killed at least four voles, one huge water vole, and two
small birds. She brought them all to me. What a waste! If only she would
eat her kill, I wouldn't have to worry about getting her her fresh meat
every day (it's not always easy to get to a shop if the weather is very
windy, like it was this summer). But she doesn't seem to realize that
they are her most natural food. Someone said I would have to demonstrate
to her how to eat them. But I draw the line there. I did put the huge
water vole in her bowl, but she didn't understand.

Withhold the fresh meat for a day or so, and she will start eating the
voles.

Maybe she is like Stinky and thinks they are groovy toys.  When they
stop wiggling and running away, they're not fun anymore.

LOL (at the last line). Do any of the other cats who go to the island
with you and Miranda know what to do with a fresh kill? If so, maybe
one of them might show her.

There are several successful hunters who do eat their kill - Linus,
Ronja, Bella - but none of them get along with Miranda so I don't think
they're going to teach her anything. :o/

You don't actually have to eat them yourself.  Just skin, clean, and
dress them, then fillet them so that it looks more like Miranda's
normal meat. :)
